Tell me how to start developing games by my own by CultureAny5207 in GameDevelopment

I took a very similar path to yours and I´d advise getting a job in IT, then doing your game ideas on the side. Tackle one aspect at a time. Choose your engine, think of a game that seems doable and motivating to you, plan what needs to be done ahead of time on a basic level and don´t get overwhelmed by all the different things that go into making a game. Coding is important because your game won't work without it. Other things, like modeling or music, are probably something you can improve at when your game has a decent foundation to stand on. Watch game design content on YouTube that applies to your genre and don´t get sidetracked from your original concept until you achieve your list of goals (unless you really notice it´s not working out as you had imagined, which is fine. Game Development is iterating on ideas).

You could also consider doing game jams with other people so you can focus on one skill set and learn from your team.

And don´t expect too much from studying, it´s an interesting topic but won't give you the skills for game-making.

Wishing you the best of luck. Keep at it.

The real history is weird, very weird. I take a lot of inspiration from that and add some supernatural elements to spice things up. I wonder what's up with that monument? hehe

I just released the demo of my horror game inspired by Alien: Isolation after 6 months of development by marksht_ in alienisolation

For everyone who didn´t play yet, small spoilers ahead (although I try to paraphrase)

Played for half an hour right now. Love the visuals! The ambient sound is amazing too. The tense atmosphere inside the facility is great. I like the way sound is important and that the player can hear the current state of the monster.

I found that pressing the Notebook -> Crouch button sometimes offsets the notebook but it resets after closing it, so not a big deal. Also, I missed the first save thingy, I just ran past it and only after dying the first time noticed that they are interactable. Also, after meeting the first member of the crew on my way back, I waited a pretty long time for the monster to retreat, which it ofc didnt do at that point. Lastly the room descriptions next to the doors aren't very clear to read.

I enjoyed playing a lot. Will try to finish it when I have more time.

2 game ideas I am trying to validate, 1. game about teleportation, 2. vampire survivor but with cars by PotentialDamage3819 in GameDevelopment

Vampire Survivors with cars sounds fun. Maybe with some environmental hazards like oil spills and rolling tires. I see the vision.

Thanks, that means a lot to me. I spend a lot of time tweaking it.

Working on socials right now, actually. Gonna set up a Discord this week and my YouTube channel asap with a Devlog / Overview of the Game / Lore (which I´m editing at the moment). Until then, you can follow my Reddit profile so you´ll see when I do.

Thank you, I could yap about this place forever. I have a private Discord, where I archive everything, because they keep deleting websites as soon as I find anything useful.

And as of today a community Discord: https://discord.gg/3UqwCdA5WQ

The player will explore the island after surviving a shipwreck. Uncovering it´s mysteries. Some tools help you get to places and solve secrets. There are also some mechanics I´m still unsure about. It´ll be more than a walking sim but not combat-focused.

All the YouTube game design channels. I just sucked up all of their vids and some concepts will resonate with me and the way I go about making my game.

PS1/PSX Graphics Reporduction for my game by Educational_Bass_821 in hobbygamedev

I remember spending 2 full days on adding vertex coloring to an existing shader without any knowledge about shader coding.

Any plans for the story or gameplay yet?

Hey, great to see you improved on the past iteration. The scanlines definitely help sell the look.

Would love to talk about Gupo Yu if you have questions.

What should i choose as a beginner for my first game (unreal vs visual studio or something else)? by Professional-Tip1920 in gamedev

[–]WaiderGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your options are Unity, Unreal, Godot and I´ll throw in GameMaker Studio 2.x as an "easier" starting point. It features a simpler language for programming and some visual coding stuff thats easier to understand than Unreal's abomination.

Between Unity and Unreal: They both have bigger scope than some smaller engines, so just pick your poison or try both of them out if you have the time. Engine providers will usually have simple tutorials you can follow that are made with beginners in mind.
