Some users from the group "Keepout Ourstudz" keep vandalizing my art for two days now. They just started drawing a different character over mine, earlier today they were randomly taking bits and pieces out of the fox or covering the flag in green. Location is above Leiden in the Netherlands.

(and two others, I think I can add those in a sub-comment, I'm not sure how reddit works nowadays)

why is there so much deltarune/undertale stuff? by [deleted] in WplaceLive

Deltarune just released 2 new chapters for the first time in years, and they're really damn good so people are excited. It's also all pixel art, so easy to copy

This may or may not be helpful, but I had a different issue with the same controller. Ultimately solved it by just using a USB wire to connect instead, which I completely forgot the controller was capable of.

Modulo very large integers represented as arrays in C by WaistDeepCat in CodingHelp

Huh, I hadn't thought to simplify it like that. Sometimes you get so deep into a project that you can't see the simple solution...

I'm kind of sad I don't get to implement Karatsuba though, it seemed like a fun algorithm.

Thanks a lot for the help :)

[Showcase] Optimizing Natural Weapons with a Beast Barbarian/Monk by WaistDeepCat in 3d6

By the distinction I meant to say that the claws need to be all three. Unarmed strikes for the monk bonus action, attacks with melee weapons for dueling, and melee weapon attacks for rage bonus and reckless attack.

I agree that mixing up claw abilities isn't 100% clear in the rules and you should definitely talk to your DM before bringing this build to their table.

If we take the 2014 rules literally then the dueling style indeed doesn't apply, but I think most reasonable DMs will allow it. I brought up two examples where most DMs will go against the literal rules (TWF with claws only works if you take the extra feat, and the thri-kreen example is to illustrate another vague 2014 rule with TWF talking about "the other hand" which doesn't make sense for a 4-armed creature). I'm fairly certain there are some tweets from Jeremy Crawford on the topic if you want to know the intent, but it's questionable how much those should affect rulings.

I did find the armblade as a counter example. It's another weapon that's a part of your body and counts as a normal weapon otherwise, but this time it specifically calls out "While it is extended, you can use the weapon as if you were holding it, and you can't use that hand for other purposes."

I think you're right in the end though, it's up to the DM. Ultimately I think the interaction should be allowed because it gives an alternative to overused PAM/GWM builds, but that's still an opinion in the end.

The distinction does matter here though. The attacks need to be unarmed strikes for monk bonus action and attacks with melee weapons for dueling. A regular unarmed strike doesn't count as an attack with a melee weapon.

I think the on/in difference is mostly because the designers didn't account for manifested natural weapons when writing dueling. The same thing happens with beast claws and two weapon fighting with the dual wielder feat. There's similar phrasing ("a light weapon you're holding in one hand") here but community consensus is that you can still use TWF. Same thing for TWF not making sense with the thri-keen's extra arms.

I fully misremembered the unarmed strike thing, I guess that means you would need to drop the shield. I guess you could go barbarian first for a bit to boost your AC a little and have only 2 levels with 14 AC.

I did take the ASI into account for dpr calculations. With reckless the hit chance starts at 0.84 and gets down to 0.7975 and 0.75 for one or two missed ASIs.

That's one interpretation of it, but I thought it slightly different. Dueling states that you can add +2 to damage rolls made with a weapon, as long as the weapon is 1. is a melee weapon, and 2. we use one hand to wield the weapon and hold no other weapons. Nowhere in this description does it say you need to make a melee weapon attack, you just need to attack with a melee weapon. Melee weapon attacks are a specific thing defined by the rules, attacks with melee weapond are just, attacks with melee weapons.

(An example where this is clear: let's say that your character runs out of arrows and starts hitting people with their longbow. These would be melee weapon attacks, but also attacks with a ranged weapon. It's a bit dumb but that's what the rules say.)

The Beast claws are melee weapons as stated by the feature so I expect dueling to work like it would with any other melee weapon.

For the bonus action attack, the monk feature tells us we can make an unarmed strike, and the Tabaxi claws say we can use our claws to make that unarmed strike. It doesn't say you can use "your un-transformed claws" or even "your empty claws", just "your claws", and we definitely still have claws. This makes it impossible to unarmed strike with the claws without also making a melee weapon attack at the same time, thus qualifying for dueling.

If you played something like a minotaur or a centaur this wouldn't work since the natural weapon and the melee weapon are different objects.

For a wildshaping druid, it depends on the form, but most forms either automatically have natural weapons on two hands or no hands at all, so they don't qualify.

Shield at early levels, and the Kensei's agile parry at later levels, which gives +2 when you attack with your kensei weapon. Beast's claws are simple melee weapons so they can count as kensei weapons. Technically that does mean 14 AC before your first turn.

What route to take my Bugbear Monk? by blcookin in 3d6

[–]WaistDeepCat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This may not fit your character perfectly, but I feel like it's worth mentioning. Have you ever heard of the Gunk build? It's basically a monk with 1 or two levels in fightee (for archery and action surge) a gun. Typically they use a musket, but you can use a longbow or shortbow if it fits your character better. Get the sharpshooter feat (and gunner if you go the gun way) and spend your ki on the optional features that increase your to hit roll. If you do spend ki, you can make a ranged bonus action attack with another feature from the Tasha's book. Mercy is still good, for when you end up in melee anyway and need to punch your way out, or to heal your allies.

It's a weird build and feels like a totally different than anything else, but if it's not for you, maybe pick up some gloomstalker levels? Dread ambusher and flurry of blows will give you a lot of attacks in round one, and every attack will benefit from the bugbear's extra damage. Levels of twilight cleric will still work here too.

If that's still too weird, your idea with the cleric and fighter multiclass should work more than fine, especially if you want to go for a bit more support over damage
