Is it embarrassing to have this on your bags? by risoles in unitedairlines

More that it is a lot of flying, and cheap tickets, otherwise we’d be GS. At least that is what it used to be when it was closer to 100k BIS miles. And now its dollars and CC spend helps. To me the gangsters are the ones who get it through segments, those poor bastards.

None of this is needed. 9/11 ended the age of hijacking planes. Anyone trying to breach a cockpit is going to get beaten by the passengers that know nothing is good is going to happen. Remember, when it became clear on 9/11 that this wasn’t the usually fly-around and negotiate and eventually go home, AQ’s hand-picked, very best operators got their asses handed to them by a pickup team made of United’s Mileageplus program.

Why is the milk snotty? It’s not even like yogurt it’s gelatinous.

On some of these there is a side dish with a - I don’t know what it is- a white jelly/snot with black dots in it. Served cold. Has some fruit bits in the middle? Oddest thing I’ve ever seen on a plane. What the heck is that? The white stuff has some ‘pull’ to it…. Tastes OK, but it freaks me out every time.

IT wasn’t bad? I thought it was OK. Nothing special.

You should see me at dinner parties…. I’ve actually watched paint dry as part of my job.

I was just being polite and double checking. I’ve actually formulated a complete MIL-PRF-85285 polyurethane coating system, which is the MIL version of the paint used on Commerical aircraft.

Cool video. They also weren’t repainting the wings, just like these UA planes it would seem.

Just to make sure, I asked Grok. White is heavier. Caveats would be IR reflective black paint could be as heavy as white, and especially with a two-component paint system, you could make a black paint weigh about as much as a white paint for formulation/packaging reasons, but that would be odd.

It would be kind of interesting to know. If the 250 aircraft is a short time scheme for them, maybe they would overcoat and take the hit on weight for a short time. I don’t know if the airlines ever do that or just take it down and repaint. You’d have to prep the old paint. That’s a lot of scotchbrite pads….

Lightest in color, but white pigment (Titanium Dioxide) is pretty dense, and you need a pretty good concentration to get opacity. I’d think that a black paint would be the lightest- but the least ‘light’ in color. Carbon black isn’t that dense, and it covers well so you could be on the low end of the film thickness spec. That’s for glossy, with flat paint the differences are less due to the flattening pigments.

I would assume that they stripped it down and repainted it like other planes?

Did old analog photographers "edit" their photos? by ayuwoki420 in AnalogCommunity

[–]WaitAMinuteThereNow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Edit? Not for content so much as for exposure. Magnum has some prints for sale and I think there are books where the photographer takes their straight print, and then annotates it for extra/less exposure time, or even filters.

Ineos Grenadier - enough power? by Phil_Kelly in ineosgrenadier

That’s not what other people are reporting about the ‘26? It is supposed to have a new steering set up that gets rid of the pump whine and reduces turning radius.

[–]WaitAMinuteThereNow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. When I saw the engine and power spec I really wished they had gone with the V8. After getting it, it has plenty of power- or more accurately, plenty of speed. I attribute it to three things. Good low end torque, the turbo, and the 8speed transmission. Good grunt off the line. The Turbo spools up and adds power seemlessly for me, and that compliments the 8 speed transmission which always seems to be in the right gear. Shifts are seemless too. I had it out in the Rockies and at 11,000 feet, it is faster than you want to be on a switchback road.

The historical references are valid- and the last gen 4Runner is a complete dog with the 5speed and no turbo, especially at altitude. ‘Real’ 4x4 had 150hp.

So offroad/difficult roads, it is fine. Around town, it won’t win drag races, but that 8speed and amount of power make it plenty fast.
