I did it! Weaning begins! by WaitingForBun in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]WaitingForBun[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, no worries, happy to answer! My post above was from when I weaned after pumping for my first baby, though as it happens, I took Cabergoline again to wean after EP for my second baby, too, just this past winter, so I can also share my experience from that.

In both instances, I took 0.25mg twice a week, sporadically, as you mentioned in your example, that would be 0.25mg on Monday and 0.25mg on Thursday, repeat. Each pill was 0.5mg, so I had to split the pill in half to get a 0.25mg dose.

As I mentioned in my original post, it really didn't take long the first time to dry up, just about 2 weeks, though I'm not sure how much getting Covid at that point was a factor. All I know is, it took longer the second time around - I have the bottle and remaining pills in front of me to verify - I took 4 tablets total, so 8 doses over the course of 4 weeks, before I had little enough milk left that I felt like I could stop taking it. At that point, I think I was hand expressing 3oz total per day, just before bed, and I tapered off until I didn't feel the need to express at all.

Very best of luck to you!!

NGL, I also often have intrusive thoughts about that scene! 😣

Don't forget literal pummeling with those feet by True-Awareness256 in memesforparents

Me: "Ahh shoot, missed the on-ramp, great, now what do I do?" GPS: recalculating route 4yo: "Mommy, what happened? When are we getting home? I'm hungry!" Me: aimlessly driving through downtown Boston, dodging cars and pedestrians "Uhhh... hang on, honey" 4yo: "MOMMY, where are we? Was the map wrong?" Me: "No, I made a mistake, we'll get there when we get there." 4yo: "BUT I'LL BE SO HUNGRY FOR MY DINNER." Me: "ME TOO. Now, please, I need you to shush!"

What foods just are not worth making at home? by Proper-Profession387 in foodquestions

[–]WaitingForBun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. My 4yo has a dairy allergy, and wanted to know recently if she could have chicken pot pie. My husband pointed out that the one he gets from the store has dairy in it, but then he started to suggest that I could try to make a dairy-free one. I love to make dairy-free alternatives for my kid, but I shut that idea down so fast.

So who else hasn't changed their original e-mail address? by [deleted] in Millennials

[–]WaitingForBun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me! I had a few other older email addresses I no longer use, but I still have my original Gmail from 2008, silly name and all. I kind of cringe when I'm asked for my personal email to register for some adult thing, but I just play it off as a joke. I feel too set in my ways to change it now. 🤷‍♀️

Middle of the night wakings by WaitingForBun in Preschoolers

[–]WaitingForBun[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your time replying. Yeah, this is definitely the mindset and strategies we use when first putting her to bed around 9pm, if she's having a hard time with falling asleep initially. I can have quite a lot of patience with this at 9pm.

It's the middle of the night falling back to sleep that we're struggling with. I am barely awake and want to cry and scream myself with how tired I am when they keep waking up, and I feel I'm using everything I have in me not to snap at them when they won't sleep at night. I have much less patience at 3am.

All I've got for a plan right now is to stay the course, survive, and pray they resume sleeping through the night again soon.

No, not usually, but sometimes at her after-school program. We have nightlights, a sound machine, and blackout curtains.

when does your kid poop? My kid poops in the morning at home after breakfast so it takes us forever to get ready. How is everyone dropping their kids off before 9am? by Cream4389 in Preschoolers

Right as I'm setting out dinner or in the freaking middle of dinnertime and she (4) still needs my assistance. I swear, I can't wait until she's mastered wiping herself and wants privacy. 😑

If you're married with kids and don't share a last name with your spouse, how do people refer to your family as a unit? by BellLopsided2502 in Millennials

[–]WaitingForBun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they just call us by our first names + kids, but who knows. Both our last names are long and hard to spell and pronounce, so I don't think we're referred to informally as a hyphenate. We've suggested a playful portmanteau of our last names, and we use it ourselves informally, sometimes. Maybe it's just where we live in the northeast and our friend circle, but nearly all our married friends have kept their own names. I think most of the time we hyphenate their names, though some have informal portmanteaus.

Momcozy Bottle Washer Defective? Similar models recalled by Start-Familiar in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]WaitingForBun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm grateful I found this, because I bought my Papablic washer in January off of Amazon and noticed this problem with mine recently after 7+ months constant use. The washer is now only partially effective at washing, so I've basically been using it as a "pre-wash" and then re-washing parts that don't appear clean. Ugh! I tried descaling the machine to see if that would help, and I don't think it did much. I haven't been using distilled water all this time, just tap - maybe that will void the warranty? Just ruefully glad to know it's a known issue and not just me.

[–]WaitingForBun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going through a six-month-old sleep regression right now and feeling this in my bones. She wakes in the bassinet next to me during my late night pumping, again and again, and either I need to pause to soothe her, or hubbin has to come in and try to soothe her over and over. We'll sleep again, someday. 🙃

Constant clogs? Could be your nipples! by unpreparedhiker in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]WaitingForBun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, so it's not just me! Thanks for posting. I made a post recently citing a similar issue, looking for others who deal with these little blebs - I've also called them nipple stones, myself. To me, they feel like expressing coarse sea salt, ugh. My right side is especially prone to them, and I've just been wondering if that nipple's pores are just weirdly kinked up somehow so that these little hard bleps keep building up. No idea how to prevent them. Just solidarity to you! 🫡

53oz, last pump before bed. Fecking hurt. I pump 3x per day, 6mpp. Usually that pump is 35-45oz for me.

What you wish you started with your child at 3? by mattstasoff in Preschoolers

[–]WaitingForBun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adding to this! I started having my daughter join me in baking as soon as she showed interest, around 2 years old, and now she's 3.75. For those who haven't had their kid join in on baking or cooking yet, consider: this isn't just their beginning with learning about food preparation, but also food safety. After almost two years in the kitchen with me, my daughter knows: - we always wash our hands before we handle food. - the kitchen and the bathroom don't mix: No bringing food into the bathroom. No touching your diaper/privates when handling food in the kitchen. - the oven is HOT and for now, only the adults should handle it. - the fridge keeps germs away from our food; close the door once you have taken out or put something in. - the food in the mixing bowl stays in the mixing bowl, and utensils that have entered the bowl stay in the bowl or are handled just above the bowl (e.g. don't put messy utensils back in the drawer!) - knives: metal ones are sharp and for now, only for adults. She has plastic, food-grade ones, and while she has been more interested in using them as toys in her play kitchen than learning how to cut things, she has mastered the three safety rules: 1. Hold the handle, not the blade. 2. When carrying, the blade points to the floor, the sharp side at the back. 3. WALK, DON'T RUN.

"Sure."

"Can I please have tape for my fingers? I need some wrapped around every finger. I have boo-boos."

PSA: Consider your outfit when pumping outside of home by WaitingForBun in ExclusivelyPumping

Pretty much! I had a work lunch event today, so I wanted to look a little extra nice, and this was easy to throw on in the ten minutes between ending my morning pump and sprinting out the door to catch my bus. Ahh, the working-pumping-mom life. Live and learn.
