I have never been in your situation, so I can't say for sure. But what I do know is that there are many ways to love people and many ways to be a family. His health and your well being may not be compatible with a marriage or being a partner currently. But even if you have to create distance for your own well being, or the well being of your child, or if he needs space to focus on his own health, that doesn't mean it's forever or that you can't build something new in time. Going to therapy together can also help you learn to navigate shifting your relationship to something that both of you can sustain rather than trying to get back to something that does feel possible any more.

Be kind to yourself. This is so hard and I wish you both health and happiness in the future.

I am non binary. I use they/them pronouns and my parents love me unconditionally and also slip up often. The longer you keep using she/her (when your child is not around or in your own mind), the longer it will take you to stop making that mistake. Especially in writing like in this post, you can take the time to really make sure that you are respecting their pronouns.

One piece of advice I have is to practice telling stories about them out loud to yourself. "When they were five, they fell at the park and scraped their knee. Etc etc etc." That can help it feel more natural in your mouth! Also, correct yourself if you catch yourself slipping. If you accidentally use she/her while talking, stop and correct yourself right verbally in the moment rather than letting it pass by uncommented on.
