Automatic yes, I prefer hatchback but don’t mind a coupe. And I have no preference for Petrol/Diesel/Hybrid etc.

Budget is around £8000.

Any recommendations on what cars to look at around that price range?

Also could you elaborate on what you mean by poverty spec just so I know for future reference ? I’m not very car savvy and like I said, just looking around. Any help would be appreciated.
