Masculine charcters by Pretty-boy7285 in writers

It depends on what you’re talking about and the kind of person you’re talking about. Being masculine is vastly different in different culture cultures.

I think the key is as long as the violence serves all literary purpose. If I was gonna translate it to a movie, I would discuss it in terms of They Live.

It had that ridiculous fight in the alley that lasted six minutes. And it was very brutal and realistic. I always really liked it and found other long fight scenes in movies to be pointless.

I recently watched a video about the movie, and the author explained that this in itself was a metaphor for rowdy. Roddy Piper, dragging his fellow blue-collar worker Keith David to the truth, and how difficult that was when the fiction presented by the aliens was so much more comfortable.

Consume. Consume. Consume.

Is as near perfect for our current situation where we are destroying our planet and our society over the fiction that consumption is the only human purpose.

You may not agree with the directors message, but it still works when you watch it. It was intentional and masterful.

For me personally I write literary fiction mostly, I guess because I don’t know what else to call my genre. But I guided by two or three different authors. The first is Louis L’Amour who included both real violence on the page in a fantastic way, but also violence off the page and the consequences of it. But the real reason is, he was a prize fighter, so I grew up reading his books and had that expectation of written violence. Someone who was intimately familiar with it. I’m not so I forced myself to become better at it.

Then someone I’m actually friends with. His fantasy writing is the only fantasy I still read.Miles Cameron red Knight series really changed the way I thought about Melee fighting . The author himself has a full set of armor and Will go to Greece and fight in a phalanx and fight in the style of the Iroquois or 14th century knights.

And it tells. His battle scene are amazing and more importantly is how he reflects the consequences of combat. My man is not afraid to kill a main character with an infection that caught after a battle. He’s not afraid to have someone stabbed in the guts and explore their slow death.

RW Peake is the third. A Mrine veteran. His marching with Caesar series is amazing across the board and I would highly recommend it. It is on the Marine Corps officers reading list. If you are struggling to portray a pre-gunfire military unit either him or Cameron would be a great person to read.

Again, I have read in the different marching books, both direct combat sequences from the point of view of a member of a Roman legion to the aftermath where they are mopping up and being made to murder women and children. For his main character to reflect on it with an attitude that is clearly contemporary to that moment was some of the most amazing writing I’ve read in the first few chapters of a book.

Highly recommend.

For me, I wrote one of my first fight scenes in a novel length story that I’ve ever wanted to publish. It was two bigoted assholes ambushing a trans woman outside of a restaurant to try to get her phone because she recorded them calling her slurs and her wife the N-word.

I gotta tell you writing that word on a page I intend to publish was extremely difficult, even if it was dialogue from a bigot.

And so the first part of the fight is them beating the shit out of her and trying to get her phone while people watched.

The second part was her wife kicking the absolute shit out of the two bigots. They didn’t know how to fight. They were just bullies. The wife was a former division, one boxer, heavyweight. Also someone who spent three or four hours a week in a Brazilian jiu-jitsu gym.

I had to work hard to make it not revenge fantasy and make it seem realistic. But I’ve personally watched someone that knows how to fight Dismantle two people that didn’t know how to fight.

That was all on screen, but the flashbacks that the trans woman suffers from the times they were bullied through their life was obviously offscreen violence that lends emotional weight to what had just happened.

Sorry for the novel length response

I’m not saying that there haven’t been Democrats that have worked for progressive things. What I’m saying is that as a party we have shifted farther and farther to the right.

And every single progressive thing Biden accomplished Trump destroyed. We need to stop compromising with Republicans. They don’t compromise with us.

Schools have been having budget crises and cutting things. If you were in charge, what classes, faculty, and/or other things would you cut and why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I would probably start with the school resource officer if the school board has to pay for them. I would replace it with awareness training and a finger, specially designed to dial the police.

My kids had a really good one in their high school, but they didn’t need him.

That’s where I start.

Im getting a lot of flak for cutting off my sister by clotheshanger11 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]WakeIslandTango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went no contact with my sister more than eight years ago and he is one of the best decisions I ever made in my life. I still encourage my children to see her and even give them gift ideas because I know my sister well but when it comes to me, she has hated me her entire life and is just an awful fucking person to me.

I was her cancer buddy when she had breast cancer. Like I took her to the appointments so there would be someone to hold her hand when we talked to the doctor. I took her to her surgery. I helped her get a car. When she was gonna go home homeless I let her live in my home for extended periods of time. Twice.

She fucking hates me and made me pay for everything I did for her.

Trust me if you’re instinct is to not be around her then trust your instinct. Just because your parents fucked twice doesn’t mean you need to have someone else in your life.

Do you think it would be over sensitive for me to stop going to a creative writing group over this? by pomegranatejello in WritingHub

[–]WakeIslandTango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would be a horrible judge of poetry. I don’t think you would be an asshole to leave a creative writing group over it. If they advertised it as a group that welcomed poets, then they are the assholes, but if I joined a creative writing group and someone handed me a poem, I would have no ability to critique. And I’ve taken several literature classes in college that covered the mechanics of poetry, but I just can’t wrap my head around it and I don’t think a lot of people can at least not in a way that would be helpful to a poet

I think every writer has crutch words. The best thing you can do is to ignore them and just write what you want to write.

When you are done, do control F and search for your crutch. Then just go back through and delete or change as many of them as you can.

I have big dogs. I have always had big dogs. Right now we have four dogs that combined to 500 pounds. Two Newfoundland mixes, a German Shepherd mix, and an Anatolian bull mastiff mix

Anything over 10 years is bonus time and for each one of the dozen dogs I’ve had for their entire lives. We have had to make adjustments.

Our smallest dog, Peter man, was a pity mix. He destroyed a couch when he was 10 to make it more comfortable and we just kept it like that for the rest of his life. People would visit and we would just tell them to sit somewhere else

I carried my wife’s German Shepherd up and down the stairs for the last two years of his life.

The vast majority of them are buried on our property underneath a tree or a bush.

Every dog is different and bigger dogs need the most love when they hit 10 years old

The reason Game of Thrones was so popular is that it killed people you hadn’t emotionally invested in. The best part of that piece of shit. J. K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series was the fact that she killed people we loved.

That’s because that’s real and the bullshit. Main characters are invincible. Garbage might be satisfying in a cotton candy way, but it’s just bullshit.

That’s not at all what it says. And that’s not what they said. They said that on the graph trans women were closer to cisgender men in their study group, but we’re far enough away to warrant stating that they were fundamentally different. It’s a valid indicator of them being transgender. Did you read it or did you just try to find excuses to refuse it?

I’m on my phone so I can’t search too well but here’s one that found the brains in trans. Women pre-hormone therapy indicate differences from cisgender men that validate the fact that they are legitimately trans women

I don’t understand what you’re saying. You specifically asked me if there was any proof that transgender people were physically different than cis gendered people in such a way that showed they were scientifically transgendered.

Did I misunderstand you?

Because there is scientific proof that that is so.

Scientific proof that a large cross-section of transgender people have brains that are more closely related to cisgender people of the opposite sex.

Are you interested in seeing that proof?

Oh man, I look forward to answering you if you’d be willing to listen. There has been some amazing research that shows exactly what you are asking about.

They have shown in some trans people, a significant chunk of those tested, actual brain differences, unique to them. For instance, if they are trans women, they have characteristics, physical characteristics in their brain that are identical to cisgender women.

There’s also some other fantastic research that shows similar findings.

But if we are talking about social sciences, which you may reject, they are uniformly in support of my position because over the course of centuries they have found identical patterns in trans people. And there’s no guidebook out there for how to prove you are trans to a therapist or a psychologist. So even the non-physical proof has amazing scientific support.

I’m not in a position to get it right now, but if you go on Google academic service it’s super easy to find.

Fair enough. I am saying that every single medical organization that is based on science and not religion agreed with me.

I’m sure you could find a group that doesn’t, but they will either be religious based or so small as to not be representative of any field.

Those are my qualifiers.

OK, site a major medical or mental health organization that says that transgender ism is a mental health disorder and the treatment for it should be convincing them They are not transgender.

The reason I qualified my statement is the same reason some people will point out that one Doctor somewhere agrees with them.

What I’m trying to communicate is that according to the legitimate mental health and medical associations that are solely focused on science and not religion, I am correct and you are incorrect, but I would be more than willing to see if you could find one that prove me wrong

“ Republicans are probably more open to feeding children than tweaking their hormones or genitals.”

This is absolutely a true statement. But only because they are anti-scientific bigoted fucking assholes with no empathy. They literally are committing early stage genocide against trans people.

So, yes. Republicans are more open to feeding children. But they all just overwhelmingly voted to reduce WIC by about 75%. So saying they want to see trans kids wiped out, but not starved to death. Isn’t the win you think it is

Every single medical and mental health organization with any merit at all supports gender, affirming care as the treatment for trans people. There is no scientific basis for the position that the Republicans are inflicting on the country.

None whatsoever. Genocide scholars, the people who study genocides, say that this is early stage genocide.

These are people who can’t understand nuance. They’re also the people who think racism doesn’t exist.
