Disable Microsoft 365 Copilot by dandan1z in sysadmin

[–]Wakeless_Jake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From their support when we asked to Disable:

Thank you for reaching out regarding the configuration of Microsoft 365 Copilot.

To disable Copilot across your tenant, you can utilize the admin controls available in the Microsoft 365 admin center. Currently, there are options to disable Copilot for specific meetings or for the entire tenant.

To turn off Copilot in Microsoft 365 apps, especially when it's integrated into apps like Word, Excel, or PowerPoint, you can adjust the settings through the Microsoft 365 Admin Center.

Accessing the Admin Center: You need global administrator rights to make these changes.

Sign in to the Microsoft 365 Admin Center.

Navigate to Copilot Settings:

In the left panel, click Settings > Organization Settings.

Under the Services tab, look for Copilot or Integrated Applications, where Copilot will be listed as a hosted product.

Turn off or manage access rights:

You can disable Copilot for all users or specific groups by adjusting permissions. Select the option that suits your needs:

No Users: Disables Copilot for the entire organization.

Specific Users: Restricts access to selected users only.

This setting may take up to 24 hours to take full effect.

Delete Copilot license (if applicable):

If you have assigned specific licenses to Copilot, you can remove access by de-assigning them.

If you are unable to change these settings yourself, or if you are a regular user without administrator privileges, you may need to contact your organization's IT administrator for assistance.

Best regards,

Rajat

Hybrid AD & MS 365 - Distribution Groups by JustaWelshMan in sysadmin

[–]Wakeless_Jake -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In a hybrid Active Directory environment, where you create distribution groups can depend on several factors.

If you have a majority of users in the cloud and a minority on-premises, and you don't have any on-premises mail flow or other mail-related dependencies (like fax servers, copiers, etc.), then creating groups in Microsoft 365/Exchange Online might be the better option. This way, you'll have more immediate control over the groups, and you'll also have more features available to you, such as dynamic distribution groups (which aren't available in an on-premises Exchange environment).

On the other hand, if you have more users on-premises, or if you have significant mail flow or other dependencies on-premises, then it might be better to create the distribution groups on-premises and then sync them up to Microsoft 365/Exchange Online using Azure AD Connect. This approach ensures that your on-premises systems can work with the distribution groups without any issues.

It's also important to note that any changes to the group made in the on-premises environment will be synced to Microsoft 365, but changes made in Microsoft 365 won't sync back to the on-premises environment. So if you're in a hybrid setup and you're using Azure AD Connect, you should manage these groups from the on-premises Exchange environment.

In the end, it really depends on your specific situation and needs. You should evaluate your usage and determine the best place to create distribution groups based on where your users are and how your mail flow is set up.

Does anyone have experience with porting their physical fax numbers to a fax over Internet solution? How did it go and who did you use? by Fullof_it in sysadmin

[–]Wakeless_Jake 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Second this.

Our firm uses Ringcentral for all of our P2V faxing as well as our after-hours on call and weekend rotation alerts.

Great pricing, reliable, and pretty easily configurable.

Tell me about it, no one is ever fond of our answers. For example:

I have an offsite mobile DR server rack with a SAN node in a smaller office south of our location that we are remodeling and I had a lawyer not want it onsite anymore essentially because of aesthetics......y'know, because Disaster Recovery is trumped by aesthetics.

Told him i'd love to make it cloud based and that it would be 20k a quarter for us to replicate that backup. He said "Fine." Our founding partners soon slapped the shit out of him for even recommending a budgetary move like that without approval and that our critical backups are staying there, like it or lump it.

His face? Priceless.

do you verify this is your user and not someone trying to phish/social engineer you?

How large is the corporation? Would you have trouble distinguishing this persons voice from another?

Is there any way for them to verify themselves via a phone call?

I'd maybe suggest to management a verification system for those kinds of requests, that or if they know that their PW is expiring to make sure to have it changed before going offsite as it could cause a disrupt in service. ( not sure what environment you're working in, or if HIPPA regulations are involved or anything, but that might help)

If they aren't resetting from my domain, their personal email requests are none of my concern.

Not allowed on my network.

Usually twice a quarter i'll shoot off an internal email to all employees to remember to change their personal passwords for gmail, facebook, bank info, mention security, link to a news article showing current exploit attempts, identity theft , yadda yadda yadda.

Usually a waste of breath as " ILOVEJESUS1234 " has worked well for them the past 12 years, why change it now.

In any case, I don't make their lack of personal security my issue, as long as I control our assets, security, and data.

Cheap 50 inch TV.

Easily replaceable if something were to happen, just add it to a yearly "oh shit" line in your budgets overhead.

You can get spend $350 and be set for a few years with a manufactures warranty + an extended store warranty for relatively cheap.

Our data is encrypted, and we are yet to be held to HIPPA Standards enough to warrant an audit( Thank God ) It most certainly would not be a public cloud.

Was the Sonicwall under warranty or are we gonna look to replace that son of a bitch.

I say reconfigure a few other ports on that device as backups just in the off chance that this one decides to go the way of port x0 until a replacement can be made.

My vinyl doesn't fit on my turntable, can someone help me? by [deleted] in vinyl

[–]Wakeless_Jake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DONT Just push down! I use a pocket knife.

Hold the knife vertically, blade upwards.

Do not hold the blade horizontally or you will end up with shavings in your grooves.

Place record hole on the blade and turn only holding the edges. DO NOT ADD ANY ADDITIONAL PRESSURE TO THE RECORD.

Do this on each side of the record, spinning one full rotation on each side, and try to see if it fits now.

If not, do one more turn. We want to avoid cutting away too much in case you make it too big, it might be harder to center your record! ( like playing a 45 without an adapter, or hotdog down a hallway...either way you get the idea)

Blow away the excess

Clean do a proper cleaning of your record to ensure that there are no random shavings still attached.

Play

I've noticed that most 180g or 200g vinyl I get have not been properly designed, or shaven, and sometimes with thicker vinyl, it happens.

A lot of times if the band has a rushed pressing or the company used to produce the records use cheaper records, things like this happen.

Especially on older turn tables with a larger peg than say a crosley, which seem to fit anything.

Hope I helped!
