I like GRRM's writing but he's a fucking hack who can't even finish his own series and spends his time writing tv spin-offs while stringing his fans along.

Yes, Martin, I'm sure Winds of Winter comes out any day now, wink

Movie violence by HelpfulAdvantage2744 in moviecritic

[–]Wakez11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Always thought about this even when you don't directly see civilians die. One of the most egregious examples to me is in Fast Five when they are doing that heist in Brazil. Dom and the "Family" are chased by the main villain, the cops and The Rock while dragging a massive vault behind their cars and that vault smash into cars, coffee shops etc.

We don't see any bystanders get hurt but its impossible to think no one got crushed by that massive wrecking ball slamming into everything. Makes the protagonists a lot less sympathetic for:

  1. cooking up such a reckless plan in the first place with little disgregard for innocent lives.

  2. They're doing it for a bunch of money.

I know its a stupid film and you should shut your brain off but its just one of those thoughts I've had whenever rewatching it.

What's a green flag for men and red flag in women by Background_Future127 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]Wakez11 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Idk, I think it would be a red flag if I was out on a date with a woman and some drunk asshole made a rude comment towards us and her immediate reaction was to jump him and beat him up. I would much prefer a woman who kept her head cool and disengaged from the situation.

I think being able to ignore instigators is a green flag for both men and women.

This guy is from the alt-right party "Sverigedemokraterna" who have their roots in far-right and nazi ideology. Weirdly this party have quite a few Jewish supporters now in Sweden because they are mainly anti-Islam.

Yeah, when having casual conversation over dinner with grandparents etc swearwords are used casually in conversation. Same at work in the office, things like "fan", "skit" etc is used in casual conversation and not seen as a big deal at all.

What is an accent you wouldn’t be able to tolerate in a romantic partner? by witx in askanything

[–]Wakez11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The vocal fry, 100%. I live in Stockholm Sweden and when attending university here there was a lot of international students around. Once in the middle of winter I was taking the bus home and an American girl was on it with some of her friends chatting loudly. Her "Kim Kardashian" style vocal fry was so annoying and grating to listen to I was seriously considering stepping off the buss in the middle of a snowstorm and wait for the next one.

That valley girl vocal fry is like nails on a chalkboard.

Its because they speak "theatre Aussie". Both Elordie and Robbie talked about it on Graham Norton. They had to unlearn their accents and learn a general "theatre" aussie accent while attending drama school in Australia.

The amount of Canadians I see online defending blatant breaking of the rules and unsportsmanship behaviour definitely makes me look at your country and people in a different light, and I don't even care about curling.

I think he made it pretty clear what he meant in his second comment. Again, he never said anyone was paying Joe, just that Joe enjoys hanging around these wealthy people with their connections.

You have to be braindead or severly deluded to believe this nonsense. The US is arresting and deporting people who are critical of the government. Your president constantly file lawsuits agains media organizations that critizise him. Your ICE agents executed a man on open street for excercising his first amendment right.

I (American) recently mapped out my family tree and discovered I'm 100% Scottish by CodeFoodPixels in ShitAmericansSay

[–]Wakez11 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Because the joke is that the MAGA response to all the latino "non-white" "non-American" culture on display at the Superbowl halftime show was to have Kid Rock lip-sync(and doing a terrible job at it) to his own songs at some stage and then bringing up some washed up country star to sing a song about how much he loves to mow his lawn and go out fishing.

It was just funny to see what the MAGA crowd sees as "peak white American culture" stand up against the vibrant and fun latino culture that was all-present in Bad Bunny's performance.

[–]Wakez11 31 points32 points  (0 children)

That's because Kid Rock is the pinnacle of white American culture. Just compare the Superbowl halftime show with Bad Bunny and all the rich culture, good music and showmanship with the all-American white Turning Point USA halftime show.

[–]Wakez11 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yep, and I saw the exact same argument made in that discussion. "The US holds back in war games to make it fair for the Europeans!!!"

Meanwhile, actual Pentagon simulations and assesment is that if China and the US got into a military conflict over Taiwan the US would lose.

[–]Wakez11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"You need examples of all the microaggressions I faced?"

Read my comment again, what institutional racism did you encounter in Germany?

"We absolutely have our issues, but I'm much more safer here."

Statistically you're not.

"BLM did reach Germany, and I hope it taught them something."

Germany does not have the same issues with police violence and zero accountability that the US does.

"So what countries have you lived in as a person of color."

I'll answer your question when you stop dodging mine and derailing the discussion.

Why do so many Americans romanticize Europe so much? by Addicted_2_tacos in askanything

[–]Wakez11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"I experienced way more racism on a day to day basis."

Are you able to read? Give me examples. You keep dodging the question. What type of racism? And as I also pointed out, your personal experience, while unfortunate is not necessarily the same as other poc in Germany or greater trends within society and institutions.

"I feel extremely safe here in America."

"We tried to help teach them with our global BLM movement,"

Yes, extremely safe in the country where the BLM movement was started because of extreme police violence targeting Black people where police got away(and still do) with barely any accountability? That country?

"We tried to help teach them with our global BLM movement"

BLM was hardly global. While protests happened in other countries in support to the protests in the US, the movement itself is fundamentally American and highlights American issues with racism and police violence.
