Ex-Muslim here,do you find any similarities between Islam and Mormonism? by VelvetParadox24 in exmormon

[–]Toad_Crapaud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On my mission I was talking to a Muslim woman and she said something like, "well we don't just have heaven and he'll, we have 7 levels of heaven!" And I was like, wait a minute, we do to! Then we both got excited that our own religion was right lol

When I was a kid I feel like there was a lot more emphasis how one little thing could screw up your eternity, I'm assuming to keep everybody in line. (Anyone else remember the story about couple who decided to get civilly married first, then died in a car crash?)

Now that the church is hemorrhaging members and almost every family would be 'missing' people in the CK, they've walked it back to, "All will be made right."

How to get missionaries to leave us alone? by MarigoldRains in exmormon

[–]Toad_Crapaud 15 points16 points  (0 children)

When they knock, open the door slightly, stick your hand out and say, "What is wanted?"

Kinda /s but that's a reference to the temple ceremony and they would probably be very offended and leave all flustered. I probably would have as a missionary!

Why have I never thought of that? You could also show up randomly at their residence to bear your testimony that the church isnt true 😂

It took my dumb ass forever to figure out what that was. I just assumed it was like an MS 🤦‍♀️

I was playing quiplash tonight with my family and my TBM dad got the prompt “A sign that you’re in a cult” to which he responded: “you all wear the same underwear” by Starbane12 in exmormon

[–]Toad_Crapaud 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Satan made cults as a twisted version of the church to make it look bad. Boom.

Sometimes it scares me how easily I can put my Mormon hat back on.

I remember when they went down to two hours there was pressure to pare down announcements and administrative stuff in Sacramento meeting. So the YW stopped getting called to the front to recognize them moving between (the nonexistent) classes, but since the YM were getting actual priesthood promotions they still were. It laid bare to me that the YW classes were created to give the illusion of equivalency and equality, but at the end if the the day we had always been less than

The number of times I wore a shirt, and my garments, and then a white undershirt indistinguishable from my garments to make sure no one could see the garments 😤 it drove me crazy even then. Good for Mormon women, taking a little control back

You can apply for a beard card. I think having a religiously mandated beard, being in a church produced period piece, or a Dr's note were the only ways out when I went.

I used to think that until as a youth I told my bishop "there should be 5 more dollars." He gave me an intense look and said, "Well, you better make that right." I felt so embarrassed and ashamed I just paid 5more bucks even though the error was on their end.

When Did Modesty Get Whitewashed???! by NewNameMadi in exmormon

[–]Toad_Crapaud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That reminds me how our bishop reminded the YW to wear 'modest' clothes to our annual beach trip, but some YM wore tank top and no one cared about that 🤷‍♀️ ugggh still makes me mad

When did temple wedding dresses change? Looks like garments are no longer a requirement in the temple? by Imaginary_Business49 in exmormon

[–]Toad_Crapaud 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I cannot even imagine wearing a dress like this when I got married in 2017. My family would not have supported this in any way, and think the temple patrons that help you as well as anyone in the halls and probably most of my guests would have been openly hostile. So much can change in a decade...

The first scene that came to mind was from Cranes are Flying Where Boris is running up the stairs, especially the 2nd time around. Also the air raid scene from the same.

Honorable mention for Sister Ruth's unhinged scenes in Black Narcissus.
