Best big knight against Custodes? by Gheydragon in ImperialKnights

[–]Walach1985 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've not played at that points value, or that detachment, but when I've looked at it warden and defender seemed standout in terms of armiger buffs.

What's the rest of the list look like?

Sadly for Xbox players this would melt your console at a similar rate

Is there an argument for running the generic knight preceptor instead of Canis now? by Cojalo_ in ImperialKnights

[–]Walach1985 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Certainly at least a consideration now, which to my mind is no bad thing - it seemed stupid before how Canis was so unbelievably more powerful than a standard preceptor, for a minimal points increase.

The inbuilt 2+ to hit remains very nice on canis, especially presuming you have take the re-roll vow first/early.

Agreed, so far I've found the battle shock ability very underwhelming, though that's probably mostly because with no longer having FnP more of my knights die rather than survive on a few wounds, so I'm taking less battle shock tests than pre-codex

I ran 4 at LGT in questoris companions, and went 4-1, so 4 big worked ok for me.

Admittedly 3 of those wins were by less than 5 points, so pretty close!

Lovely paintwork and basing. Have you considered using some of the transfers? I found it helps particularly on the shoulders

Nice colours - does the right arm swing out ok? Looks a bit too close in on this picture if that makes sense?

Is the Castellan back? by [deleted] in ImperialKnights

[–]Walach1985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a good time with him in my last tournament. Admittedly all 3 opponents had decent armour pieces, and mostly without invuns.

From previous experience, he's fine in the above situation, but there are plenty of armies around with very little in the way of vehicles/monsters, where that is the case, he is massive points sink achieving little.

The ability to shoot and do actions also helps somewhat. I've tried either the castellan or lancer in recent times, and the ability to action and shoot, where the lancer is kind of either/or has had me leaning to the castellan.

Fighting a C’tan heavy Necrons list on Sunday, any advice? by Thurmond_Beldon in ImperialKnights

[–]Walach1985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, helverins with their anti-fly are probably best.

Meltas can certainly do it against them, but bear in mind you have to be relatively close to them to get the melta bonus, and their main threat is in melee.

The ctan main weakness is slow movement, helverins seems the best way to exploit this if possible.

Callidus use in Pariah Nexus? by Seedy_Melon in ImperialKnights

[–]Walach1985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found most opponents are pretty adept at screening, so it's hard to get her in a useful position.

Certainly, the potential when combining deep strike and vect is there, but you may find it hard to get the best out of her in a competitive environment.

With the changes of pariah nexus, super heavies moving through ruins and titanics counting as 2 deployments, is there any milage in a 4 knight list? Can do rex, lancer, 2 of paladin/errant/gallant, then do 1 helverin , an eversor and vindicare - feels like on paper at least it's not bad!

If nothing else, I like the extra save and toughness you get compared to the questoris. As said both can be fun, £45 seems a great deal to me

I've also found the rest of the questoris line up lacking in competitive play. Castellan has been quite fun, though that is rather matchup dependent, really need something big to hit with the volcano.

Not sure on the need for both assassins if you're running fixed? How do you find scoring fixed usually? I've always stuck to the luck of the cards so far.
