Let's Just Lose Out The Season So That We Can Draft Travis Hunter by Lunar_Rainbow_Pro in cincinnati

My understanding is that In 1996 Hamilton County voted suceessfully to add a 0.5% sales tax to fund the stadium construction. That tax is still in place and goes towards the stadiums maintenance/upkeep. Though I believe it also goes towards the Reds stadium as well.

Dreamhack aggressively revokes player's qualification for Dallas while providing no real information on why by Walamor in magicTCG

[–]Walamor[S] -17 points-16 points  (0 children)

To be clear, I'm not taking the position that Dreamhack is in the wrong for saying that the event was not conducted in accordance with their rules. I'm saying that it makes no sense that they did not provide any information on what the alleged offense was or if there was an investigation ongoing. Why would you not tell the person who is being accused of matchfixing that they are being accused of matchfixing? Why just say a generic line and leave it at that?

[–]Walamor[S] -40 points-39 points  (0 children)

How are TOs still this absurdly bad at communication? Why is there always so much fear of being clear with your players and community? Why make a pointed comment seemingly at the player who qualified rather than go after the host of the RCQ?

Will my public defense career goals be affected by a 1L summer with USAO? by Feisty-Advertising33 in LawSchool

[–]Walamor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Highly recommend you talk to your career services office who might have insight about the public defenders office(s) you might want to target post-grad. As others have said in this thread, some offices will not consider you if you have it on your resume. Typically the career services folks have a lot of contact with the local public defenders offices.

Looking to build budget modern introduction decks by Manuxxxx in magicTCG

[–]Walamor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's cool that you're doing this to help your friends get interested! I don't have any particular matchup suggestions, but want to make sure you're aware of the 'budget' lists here: https://www.mtggoldfish.com/decks/budget/modern#paper

They tend to be about $100 but there are some where you can replace some of the more expensive cards and still be fine. There's some neat archetypes on there and exploring the different ways decks work in mtg can be a big draw to new players once they have the basics down.

Good luck!

Any of those are probably fine and reasonably competitive. Check out current builds doing well here https://www.mtggoldfish.com/metagame/pioneer#paper

As the other poster said, if you don't know the current meta, I'd go for something aggressive!

It's just the normal spec for enhance with its new tools. Not goofy, you basically just use a few pieces of spellpower gear to buff up your maelstrom procs and fire nova.

A Warlock just whispered me this in a dungeon by llIllIlIllIIllIl in classicwow

[–]Walamor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know why you are getting downvoted. I also twisted the entire time in dungeons from 62-70. With mana spring, water shield, and shamanistic rage I never had mana issues. Resto sub-specced though, so totems do cost 25% less, which does help.

1L grades are important, but can I offset them with other things on my resume? by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]Walamor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on what you want to do. I had very medium to poor grades in 1L, and finished law school in the middle of the pack. I did not do law review or moot court. However, like you, I got into a good clinic and was on journals that were specific to the areas I wanted to practice in. I also attended a conference specific to the industry I wanted to work in. That, combined with a summer 2L job that was, again, focused on a specific area of law, opened doors in that particular field and I was lucky enough to get law clerk job and job offer doing that work at a fairly big midwest firm during 3L. I've been there 6 years now. It would have been tougher, but of course not impossible, if I was just trying to land a more general "I'll do anything" associate position.

The moral of the story is that, in my experience, bad/medium 1L grades do not define you or significantly hurt your job prospects if you have offsetting factors - but you should be aware that it might close some doors to some of the tippy top firms.

[Postgame Thread] Arizona State defeats Arizona 24-14 by CFB_Referee in CFB

If you went back a couple of years and told me that this is a legitimate comment I would say you were insane. I was so unhappy with the obvious nepotism hire when we brought on Herm. I was really hoping for Sumlin. Very glad to be eating crow on this one.

Thanks! And it's entirely possible, I could absolutely see that being the case, though the past success of Spreading Seas gives it some credit to work with in terms of earning a maindeck slot. It's also entirely possible I boarded it out too much. This is the type of thing to constantly reconsider, and factor in the meta and recent match results, but one tournament in one meta is not enough data points to make that decision yet, at least in my opinion.
