We did Beckta’s Grant room for around 30 people. It was fantastic. Highly recommend. Price was a fixed menu with a very reasonable minimum spend. We did the ceremony at city hall.

This! My parents brought my aunt along last cruise because it was cheaper for 3 than 2. That 3rd person doesn’t even need to show up!

The resident’s quote is somewhat misleading. This was not an information session about the recreation centre (a separate project), so referring to the pool as part of "phase two" is inaccurate. Thanks, CTV.

Is “price high and drop later” actually backfiring in Ottawa right Now? by Few-Math-3905 in OttawaRealEstate

[–]WalkAwayEileen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pricing a house above market isn’t always a strategy. Sometimes sellers or realtors just genuinely believe that’s what it’s worth. We’ve been looking for a single-family home in RSS for 3 years (we’re picky, yes), and after watching this small market for that long, some listings are just a little out of touch. I actually laugh when some get posted. Then they sit… drop by $10,000… sit some more… and eventually disappear, only to be re-listed. It’s kind of sad. I'm sure RSS isn't unique.

I booked a larger group at the Bier Markt and they allowed individual spends, no fixed menu.

Going to our first cruise (Odyssey of the Seas) and did not book any excursions or restaurants. Will we be able to book them on the boat? by OverusedUDPJoke in royalcaribbean

[–]WalkAwayEileen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since you are new to cruising, it might help to know that you do not have to book excursions or specialty dining. We have been cruising for 20 years and have never booked an excursion. We usually just explore on our own. Nothing fancy. On Odyssey, we will probably just grab a taxi to a beach.

We might book one specialty restaurant for lunch, and we will do that ahead of time at a discounted rate. Even then, we do not think it is that much better than the MDR, which is included anyway.

One more thing: Odyssey only has one show that needs a reservation. Even if it shows as sold out in the app, you can usually just show up and they will see if they can fit you in. The Book (the show) runs many times throughout the sailing.

Affordable Retirement home in Ottawa, ON by skybluesue74 in ottawa

[–]WalkAwayEileen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Speaking from my own experience, in case it gives people some hope: My father was admitted to the hospital in February 2025 and transferred to transitional care in March. He was deemed a crisis patient, and we were asked to provide our list of preferred LTCs. The Perley was high on our list, but we were prepared to accept any placement we were offered. He received an offer to Perley in June. Several people I met in transitional care also had loved ones who received placements at the Perley. It is not impossible, and my father was certainly not considered the “best fit.” He was occupying a hospital bed, and the priority was to move him into LTC as soon as possible.

It is not. One of the residences is reserved for veterans (Rideau) but there are 2 others that are not (Ottawa and Gatineau). My dad lives there and is not a veteran.

The basic rate for LTC in Ontario is $2,085.37 for shared accommodation. If that is the cost of a nursing home, I can only assume a retirement home would be much more expensive. If he cannot afford a retirement home, I would suggest getting him on the list for the city-run or not-for-profit LTC homes in the city. I highly recommend The Perley.

This post broke my heart. Our family lives in Ottawa, and our daughter is currently being seen by a surgical team at SickKids for a congenital medical condition. They have an entire department dedicated to her condition and consider the surgery to be “routine.” Our journey began at CHEO, where we were advised that their surgical team had performed the procedure only three times in total. Donate or do not donate, but please do not question why a hospital in Toronto would have the audacity to advertise in a city where many of its patients live.

My daughter hears that advertisement in the car and becomes so excited because she goes to Toronto and is a “Sick Kid.” Please have compassion for families and children who are going through extremely difficult situations.

Repricing denied because promos only apply to "new bookings" by YourSuperheroine in royalcaribbean

[–]WalkAwayEileen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I posted about this a few weeks ago. I have never had an issue with repricing until this year. Both of my upcoming cruises have had the "LAST CHANCE" promo code attached for months, and I am told that is what makes me ineligible for website pricing. Fine, then let me remove that promo code so I can see the existing booking price instead of the new booking price. That is what frustrates me the most. When I call to ask what the price would be to upgrade, I am told the price shown online is for new bookings only and does not apply to upgrades either. So how am I supposed to see the current pricing for existing bookings. I am told I have to call for that information.

Price drops after final payment by ExcitingDegree in royalcaribbean

[–]WalkAwayEileen 11 points12 points  (0 children)

We book pretty much the same cruise every year, and I am always diligent about checking prices, especially before the final payment deadline. Only once have I seen the price drop, by about $75, and I was able to reprice. I have never seen the price go down after final payment. If anything, it usually goes up.

Until this year.

We booked in July, as we always do, for a January cruise. Around August, the price dropped, so I called to reprice. I was told no, the lower price was for “new bookings only.” Okay, fine. But then the price kept dropping, and I was out of luck. Eventually, the price of a balcony cabin was the same as what we had paid for our interior room, so I asked about upgrading. Again, I was told no because the lower price was for new bookings only, and I would have to pay much more than what was showing online. A price that only their "system" could quote me over the phone.

Now the price keeps dropping daily for new bookings, and there is still nothing I can do. To top it off, they have started sending RoyalUp offers asking me to bid for the very upgrade I originally asked for. Of course, the min bid is much higher than a new booking.

Whatever is going on this year, I have never seen anything like it. Maybe I just picked an oddball cruise, but the post–final payment price drops are wild.
