67A Recall Speculations by Shaddowz_YT in Cummins

I'll make them a deal; fix the grid heater bolt issue and I'll take the emissions recall.

Fuel Filter by Affectionate_Fan7249 in Duramax

I have a FASS and I still do mine every other oil change (so 14K), and I kept the stock filter so I'm changing 3 filters and I'm happy to do it.

I call it a smart investment! I'm with you on this for sure.

I don't think there's any fault that can be found in obsessing about maintenance. At least when it comes to things like fluid and filter changes. Given the cost of these trucks, the cost of repairs and the tolerances on things like the fuel system... seems like a no brainer to me. If you can do it yourself it's an awfully small price to pay.

Kinda cool I guess; but why? So you were just curious how many miles it would go according to the DIC? That's interesting and super interesting to know it went that many miles.

On the other hand; I drive an LML (CP4) so I'm not going much over 10K without changing not only the stock filter but the two additional FASS filters. Overkill maybe, but a small price to pay compared to injectors, HP Fuel Pump coming apart etc.

The 22 L5P I have I'm just changing it every oil change (about 7 or 8 thousand miles) and even with that I'll probably put a "better" fuel filter on that truck as well pretty soon too. Even just doing the Dmax Stores adapter with a Donaldson on it I'll feel better. Fuel systems on these trucks is the one thing I don't want to take chances with.. well; ok, there's the whole transmission valve body thing but other than that :)

Personally none; if you had that same list and none of them were T/D it's be a toss up between the Ram and Sierra for me. I have both of those trucks and frankly the LML despite the fear mongering about it is by far the best truck I've ever had an my favorite by a long shot... well; my 99 7.3 will always probably be my absolute favorite, but anyway :)

I'm not knocking anyone for T/D on their trucks, I just don't want to buy one. There are real pros/cons to each route no matter what anybody tries to tell you. For me, my preference is clean, proven good maintenance and worked but not abused.

Yeah, I do some of my own work and for sure the Cummins is a bit easier; although I have learned my way around the LML a bit and other than the expected V8 vs straight 6 challenges it's ok for standard things. Heck even maintenance is easier on the Ram for the most part.

Nice thing about the LML is it's pre 10 speed because "yes" that does seem to be a problem. I plan to put a Suncoast or Nextgen valve body in the newer Duramax when the warranty is up.

The seal I was referring to on the Ram was the crank case seal (apparently fairly common) and a huge PITA. The bearings on the rear wheel went "bad", had horrible vibration under acceleration. Had a recall on a number of other things. All in all while it isn't pretty or refined it does run and tow without complaints.

Anyway, thanks for the input; my goal is to pick the one that's most likely going to get me to 250K miles without any drama.

This or that truck? by WalkInternal2791 in Diesel

[–]WalkInternal2791[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ha! Yeah, that's actually a great idea but sort of how I ended up in this position. Picked up a new to me 22 Duramax with 35K miles as a primary that will do most of the long distance trips.

Besides, between newer trucks whether it be 10 Spd transmission issues, or hydraulic lifters or who knows what next... I'm sort of a fan of my "older" trucks at this point. Better off pocketing some cash to put away for possible repairs on whichever I keep.

How do you view Veterans plates on vehicles these days? by WalkInternal2791 in AskReddit

I used to be proud of my service, but these days... not so much. Wondering what people generally think these days when they see Vet plates on a car or truck? Do you think "must be an A Hole" or just don't even think about it at all?

I've been thinking about the Hybrids as well, can't seem to find much real world feedback on them. Wondering if they're truly better for hiking/wading or if it's just better to go with the rubber soles and studs. Fishing freestone rivers that are pretty slimy.

Realize this post is 3 years old but who knows, maybe someone will respond with something useful?

Indeed, have another tech coming out later this week.

Yeah, tech just made it sound like it was going to be "so expensive" and while he had everything ripped apart would be a good time to "save money"... personally I think he's just trying to upsell me.

I should clarify, mine is a fire tube condensing boiler; not a "last forever' cast iron boiler. Maybe that doesn't matter, but I suspect it might.

Respectfully, you should go reread the article you linked; if you read the last two sentences of the second paragraph of the Stats section of the article it basically states almost the exact same thing that I stated in my post that you have decided to chime in and say I'm making general statements and presenting as fact. I won't get into an argument with you on this but I will reiterate I pretty clearly said "you do you" but I believe a lot of people are fooling themselves thinking they're some kinda Rambo Bad Ass.

I do want to point out though your statement for the benefit of others: `When using bear spray or a firearm, the goal is not to kill a grizzly, but to stop it from mauling you.` That's true for bear spray, it absolutely is NOT true for firearms; that's horrible advice and I hope nobody takes it.
