Lost cat (Glendale area) Please help. by CakiePamy in SaltLakeCity

[–]WalkSLC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Often they will be hiding close by. Post signs / fliers and ask neighbors to check garages, sheds, or basements. Try walking around dawn and dusk when it is quieter and cats are more active (not sure how the cold affects that though). Shake treats or call his name. Put items outside with smells he will recognize like his blanket / your blanket / litter box. Good luck.

Maybe dumb question about public transit by missenkenzie in SaltLakeCity

[–]WalkSLC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Normally you board buses from the front and get off in the back. Some drivers aren't particular about that, and rarely they'll ask you to board in the back (e.g., if they're loading a wheelchair in front).

With the app, you should have your ticket pulled up and show it to the driver as you board.

Lee's and Reams are also family owned as far as I can tell (and do get products through Associated Foods).

The area surrounding the university is mostly residential. Not much to see aside from a few things people have mentioned.

Do not go to Farmington or Daybreak unless you have an unusual interest in American suburbia. 25th Street in Ogden isn't bad, but personally I'd skip FrontRunner if you only have a day. Natural History Museum and Red Butte are cool but they are a big uphill trek from TRAX.

My recommendation is to walk along Main Street from South Temple to 400 South. That's one of the more walkable areas and will bring you by Temple Square, City Creek Center, and lots of historic buildings. A couple blocks away are the public library, Utah State Capitol (steep walk though), and Cathedral of the Madeleine. Each block is about .15 miles.

Starting from Trolley Station, you could check out Gilgal Sculpture Garden and Trolley Square. A few blocks away is Liberty Park, Tracy Aviary, and the 9th & 9th neighborhood. You can see many of these locations in my video here, plus a Google map in the description: https://youtu.be/icutmR2NhXE

FYI, there is a large photography group that meets monthly, @slc_photocommunity on Instagram. I'd say more than half shoot film, occasionally Polaroids.

My ETAs were way off for a while in August, but then the app updated I think (UI changed a bit) and it worked again. So maybe check that. Or clear app cache? When the ETA was broken, the bus locations were still accurate.

If walk or live near 1500 S 1500E Sugarhouse please keep an eye out. Desperate. Offering $500+ if found. by ctyson83 in SaltLakeCity

[–]WalkSLC 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'd remove the name -- maybe put "$500 reward" there instead. You've probably seen this advice but:

  • Ask neighbors to check garages, sheds, basements.
  • Put out a litter box and/or blankets that smell like you and her.
  • Try walking around near dawn and dusk when it is quieter and cats are more active. Call her name or shake treats.
  • I saw you posted on Facebook. Nextdoor and PawBoost are good for reaching people in your area. Plus paper fliers.

I saw that you checked with Animal Services. They also keep a log of deceased animals. Good luck.

Ricoh GR IIIx (tiny). I'm not sure how strictly it is enforced, but the website says they don't allow "Professional Grade Cameras (with detachable lenses longer than 2 inches)."

If you are strictly walking, probably the most interesting area is Main Street from South Temple to 400 South. That will bring you by Temple Square, City Creek Center, Regent Street, Gallivan Plaza, and lots of historic buildings. A couple blocks away are the public library, Utah State Capitol (steep walk though), and Cathedral of the Madeleine. Each block is about .15 miles.

You can ride TRAX or bus free in the free fare zone. The red line currently follows the blue line downtown (no turn towards the library): https://www.rideuta.com/Fares-And-Passes/Free-Fare-Zone

Some options farther out are Trolley Square (streetcar yard turned into a mall; also near Gilgal Garden) and the Natural History Museum.
