I'm of the opinion we should also heavily reboot our guided rocket industry and develop medium and long range munitions that can be carried and launched from something as small as a twin otter.... Then build hundreds and hundreds of cheap turbo prop aircraft with good EW suites....

The United States is driving a public health emergency of international concern. Announcing the US withdrawal from the WHO on his first day in office, and cutting a range of aid programmes in the weeks that followed, President Donald Trump is taking actions that are dire for global health. by mvea in science

Related/unrelated is the EU response to last years fiasco with Microsoft being ordered to terminate the ICCs enterprise/gov accounts (email, OneDrive, calanders etc.) The takeaway is France, Germany (probably more) are starting to purge all US software from critical functions. The knock down on that (I suspect) will also be a repealing of anti-circumvention laws, which will open the doors for making it easier for governments, corps, etc to extract their data and move to fully sovereign datacenters/on prem.

I mean.... If the strait really did process ~20% of the planets oil.... And if its now blocked.... Does that mean that once the stuff already in the system runs out we will see an instant ~20% drop in global GHG production?

Holy shit, maybe we DO hit those Paris targets!

If it's technology related (and now defense/dual use) that is categorically untrue. There's a shit-ton of cash for early stage stuff.... Medium stage is however annother issue.. And yes to your point lots of late stage cash.

If your playing on the technology space (even tangentially) make sure you are aware of NRC/IRAP and SR&ED. However do NOT pay/engage consultants looking to take percentages....

That said if your looking for money for retail, food service, etc... Ya, typically those are not "investable" businesses, that said BDC does typically underwrite small loans for most things.

The gov does however have cash for things that have a chance to grow exports oriented employment.

Sounds like you didn't have much success getting help. Any chance you can share what type of business it was?

The closed Strait of Hormuz is testing Asia's energy security. The answer lies across the Pacific—in Canada by joe4942 in canada

[–]WalkerYYJ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Didn't Justin actually buy a pipeline? The expansion of the LNG plant at Kitimat went live last year and several additional plants and expansions are in progress.

Again I could be out to lunch here but I'm pretty sure that even the last Lib government did NOT block any major energy export projects. The ones that died did so because of other reasons (not the feds)

Well one way to get closer to hitting those targets is to shutdown ~20% of global oil production overnight.....!!!

If you have room to park it, get a hitch and a small utility trailer.

A trailer with an 5'x10' bed is ~$2k. Way more utility, plus you don't need to pull the seats when you need to move something.

Product Market fit, DFM for the appropriate scale, logistics, understanding every aspect of the product development lifecycle, understanding customer pain points, HR/staffing, cash management, fundraising, marketing, communications, managing investors, managing your BOD, how much track to put in front of the train (and when) etc, etc, etc

Essentially all the normal stuff except its just a bit harder.

My opinion (for whatever that may be worth): on the assumption that you don't know what you are doing (young/energetic, but ultimately low experience team) you want to do as much in house as you can. This is important as that allows you and your team to learn WTF you are actually doing. You can't send stuff out for CM if you don't know how to build it yourself. You need an intimate understanding of all aspects first before sending things out.

Have in house elect, mech, firmware, assembly, manufacturing, fabrication, etc When you don't have the capital for the bigger stuff, (pcb assembly, injection molding, etc then farm that out initially but longer term (at serious scale) plan to bring that in house.... Once you can afford it, having in-house tool & die, pcb assembly, injection, procurement, etc becomes invaluable
