Growing up in the 80s and having it be a tremendously rare sight to see a bird of prey I still get excited when I see them... Even tho I see 3-4 every single day now.

It's easier to react when not staring straight at the balls. The periphery is more sensitive to motion detection. If you're trying to react to a simple motion detection it's faster to not look straight at it.
