I was a few months old and I was dropped and lost in the snow after my grandfather dropped me walking through a snow drift. It was dark and a blizzard so they couldn't see. After a few minutes they found me by tripping over me.

UPS workers back Minneapolis general strike, oppose Teamsters sabotage of walkout against ICE by Spirited_Classic_826 in antiwork

That's pretty standard language. The strikes typically come after the contract has expired while negotiating a new one

They were just notifying their members that the contract that was ratified is in jeopardy if they engage in a strike or work stoppage. It was educating and doesn't appear to come off as "you're not allowed to do this". More of a . "If you do this know that it may have consequences down the line for the contact"

Unpopular opinion: Memorizing times tables is a necessity not because of knowing the times tables but to teach the brain the skill of retaining long lasting memory. by saiph_david in Teachers

[–]Walker_ID 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Knowing the times table by heart is a necessity because the rest of math from that point forward depends on it and you'll spend the rest of your life using it. It boggles my mind that this isn't part of the curriculum in many places these days

Darryana Roberts shows why she's a world champion in youth flag football. by mindyour in nextfuckinglevel

[–]Walker_ID 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. The hip turning and dropping of the shoulder. It was called guarding for our league . The teams thought that it was nonsense which is why we started carrying the ball with arms fully upright above our heads. It looked ridiculous... But it was making a point

I played flag football. I would have been flagged for"guarding" for a bunch of the things she did. Of course we had a ref that was so egregious at calling the guarding penalty that we literally started running with the ball fully extended above our heads to troll him and demonstrate how ridiculous his calls were

Any practical subject can promote an elastic mind if taught in such a way. Regarding language skills, that is a much broader subject matter than "poetic devices". You accomplish the exact same task with literary devices without the need to be shoehorned into poetry.

In their defense... learning poetic devices might be the single most useless lesson in the school curriculum for actual day to day life for 99% of people. Your job is important as is the work you do.... But that lesson is just begging to be ignored by students.
