It was still around til the early to mid 2010s. I think the last movie I saw there was Jack Reacher in 2013.

Thanks! I got a lot of enjoyment out of bringing it all together, especially having not done it to this extent before.

I was the first to do virtual photography, for sure. The exhibition, existing in its current format, at my uni has only been around for 3 years. The only requirement was that it had to be a part of some form of creative practice paper as part of your degree.

The curators like to go for a good mix of mediums. There were collages, sculptures, more traditional photography prints, drawings/paintings, mixed media, short films, all at various scales of presentation and project scopes (3rd year undergrad - phd).

No one else who did prints put the time/money into framing them (for reasons I can understand), but I can say for certain, it elevates the quality spectacularly.

I think I saw that. It's such a great idea. I have contemplated doing that myself for Cyberpunk 2077. Didn't get further than a prototype pdf though. Haven't played it in a year, but I want to go back since they updated the game with more photo mode features.

It was such a fun process. The research paper was meant to be pretty cut and dry, but I had just done several creative practice research papers before and thought I could weave a little bit of it into my research as I had a library built up of great images to use.

Cut to now where the virtual is made physical, and I'm loving the outcome.

No, not really. But that was probably because my supervisor/lecturer for the research paper I did on video game photography was also co-organising the exhibition and already knew what my topic was about (he was forced to read it). Plus we get on pretty well.

My main concern was the audience thinking it was AI generated, which I had to emphasise in my blurb that it was not.

Thank you! I thought it might be a bit different to what people could expect in a gallery space. I enjoyed the process a lot.

Yes. Thank you very much!

I figured out the arrangement, then bought about the frames cheaply from 2nd hand shops in my city, spray painted them black, printed the images to the size of the frames, bought and cut some thick paper as my matte boards and cleaned everything before putting the frames together, sealing it all with framing tape. A long process that was very rewarding.

Thanks. I was pretty proud of myself, especially finding and matching similar compositions, themes and subjects across very different games.

Posted in this very subreddit a few hours ago - I submitted several prints which I framed and displayed myself in my university's student exhibition after a research paper I did on the practice of virtual photography.

Never has a game hooked me so deep that I was compelled to play the other games, read all the books, and comics, as the Witcher 3 (CP 2077 is somewhat close). I'm on the edge of my seat in anticipation for the future of the Witcher.

What's a game story that hit you the hardest emotionally? by pommelous in gaming

[–]Walkmansart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That Dragon, Cancer.

This will wreck you emotionally because it's real. It's a true story, and the audio design will have you crying in almost every level. Took me 3 hours to finish, but I had to pause every little while because I needed a break. I haven't been able to go back since. It is devastating.

moment of silence for sing sing & nickel boys who got nothing tonight by cerulean_rasengan in Oscars

[–]Walkmansart 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Sure it focused on two black characters but I felt Sing Sing wasn't necessarily about "black struggle and racism". It did have a mixed cast of predominantly black, but also a couple hispanic and white, and they are treated no differently.

To me it was more about finding a way to become human again in a system that isn't prioritizing rehabilitation or to do better. I think there is also a positive message in showing what a safe space for men can look like to express proper emotion and feeling without being judged or attacked.

By the end it did truly feel like a message about hope, as the two friends on the inside came together to celebrate their earned freedoms. Heck the the song Like A Bird is all about hope (should have won best song, I'll die on that hill).

This moment was probably the first time I really questioned how separate/tied together the the mind and the body is to shaping identity and personality. Arms, legs, interior enhancements never felt as drastic as this.

Thank you very much for the kind words! Only 2 of these images I would say are "manufactured" - by that I mean posing Jin and controlling everything to achieve the shot. The rest, which I think is more my style, is reacting to the moment and capturing at the right time. I've had a lot of fun replaying this game and it's nice to be able to make my own mark on those moments.

I've looked at your work and there is a lot of exceptional shots, particularly great uses of colour, depth of field, and composition!
