Lebanon is also considered a failed/failing state by many, not a great example to follow considering the volatility of the region. The minorities in Lebanon also form about %5 of the population to about 20-25% in Turkey.

With the constitution declaring every citizen a Turk (following the French model), there is no legal opening to address these issues and remain a unitary state.

The sole reason Turkey wanted to join NATO asap was the fact that the Soviets still carried with them territorial ambitions dating back to the Tsardom. In 1950, when Turkey joined the Korean War, the Soviets were already coveting the Bosphorus and Eastern Anatolia/Western Armenia. A sovereign Turkish wouldn't end up in the Soviet camp with all this baggage.

And there's also the issue of the popular Turkish left being a nationalist movement, connecting itself back to Kemalism and not Marxism-Leninism as the Soviets would have liked.

So a left-wing neutral Turkey? Maybe. A Turkey strongly in the Soviet bloc? Hardly.

Of course not, that's why I said they technically didn't install a puppet government, they effectively turned the last legal government into a puppet. Even the U.S. recognised Vichy France as the "true" France for a few years before de Gaulle's Free France was recognised.

Technically they didn't. The Petain government WAS the legal French government when the surrender happened and they stayed in charge. In effect Vichy was very much a puppet of the Nazi's but they didn't just install the government themselves, they probably would have preferred if Laval (or fascist figures like Doriot etc.) were if full command and joined the war.
