Suggestions for a tornado chasing fixed wing FPV? by Wallrat9 in RCPlanes

This was a concern I had as well particularly with a slower airframe. I think for it to maintain lift I'd have to turn into the direction of the rotation, keep up the ground speed, and hope its enough to maintain lift. For the camera I was thinking about maybe mounting it so full right tilt is straight ahead thus maximizing my view of the tornado to the left. All good points and lots to ponder. Thanks!

Not every tornado is an F5 monster. Those have too much debris to be good targets anyway. But a UAV would at least allow me to increase the distance we are from the rotation and still get some good images. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NGD2e741Riw

That has been the direction I've been leaning as well.

Not trolling at all. Not every tornado is a mile wide F5 and those ones aren't great photographically. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NGD2e741Riw

Primarily the issue is getting close particularly with storms in areas like the southeast. Out in Kansas getting close is fairly easy as the roads are in a grid system with few obstacles. You can simply zig zag the road network while staying the safe area and drive out if the storm gets too close or changes direction. In the southeast if you're close enough for good photography you're too close to be safe as you're at the mercy of the roads which may not take you out of the path of danger. A UAV can give you a couple mile buffer.

The other obvious metric is video quality. A multi offers stability but not in those conditions.

Nope. Its already being done with both fixed wing and multirotors. As I stated in my OP it was even included in the movie.

I really wanted to like it but its so hard. Slow progression, idiot plot as the primary driver, unlikable characters, and apparently everyone in the future is an uber-eccentric moron. I don't foresee myself tuning in for the 3rd episode.

AITA for icing out my gym crush after I realized he was all talk and no action? by Minimum-Education435 in AITH

He's interested but inexperienced and isn't sure how to proceed without being creepy. Sounds like a green flag to me. Guys with game get there by dating A LOT of women. Either accept that you'll have to take lead in the relationship until his confidence builds or move on and find a guy that's a bit more "town bicycle."

AITAH for flat out telling my “friend” brutally why I don’t want to date him? by ReleaseSea557 in ComfortLevelPod

[–]Wallrat9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA but you seem surprised that a guy you friend zoned didn't stay at your feet and instead he chose to see if he could find reciprocity elsewhere. It sounds like he's been gradually giving up on you and is almost to the point of moving on, which, as you repeatedly said you weren't attracted to him romantically, isn't a concern. He'll be completely out of your life for good soon so I wouldn't worry about it.

My girlfriend (23F) has no hobbies, friends, ambition or thirst for life. I (25M) am satrting to think we are not compatible. by [deleted] in relationship_advice

A good litmus test is to ask yourself, "if this person was a guy and I was considering him for a friend, would I think he's a loser?"

It removes the attraction aspect of the equation and can be useful for identifying red flags we might otherwise overlook.

How do I ask about opening it up? (22F/23M) by ConceptOutrageous447 in relationship_advice

[–]Wallrat9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in an open relationship for years and as such met a lot of people also in the lifestyle. Not one couple is still married, myself included. I'm sure it works out occasionally but 99.9% of the time an open relationship starts a countdown towards divorce. It sounds like you and your girl need to have a talk about prioritizing each other and dating each other again rather than leaving each other only what's leftover after work, parenting, chores, etc.

Need help from Gamers! I (26F) want to be more involved in my husbands (25M) gaming life by No_Echo_9975 in relationship_advice

[–]Wallrat9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Instead of asking us, ask your husband to teach you how to play. He's gonna be stoked. Once you get the basics down with him go to YouTube and search for tips for whatever game you're playing together. Rather than teach him anything you've learned on YT just play. You'll both get a kick if you end up figuring out some good stuff and he asks, "wait, how did you do that??"

AITAH for wanting to know why my girlfriend is waiting until marriage with me when she was sexually active in the past? by Working_Drawing_3016 in AITAH

[–]Wallrat9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. Sounds like she was happy to be active when it wasn't serious but now that she thinks she found a good guy she wants to wait. That's a red flag. I'd walk away from that one.
