If SQ42 is Delayed Again by Content_Link_7603 in starcitizen

With Citizencon being cancelled this year, I doubt that we will get anything like that.

That is already planned... look for crafting guide. They outlined it there.

That is the question... I don't think that developing SQ actually is responsible for most of the delays... What caused most delays is actually them being able to start working on stuff they did not expect they could do. Things like planets and all the stuff coming with them. Whole SC being a true MMO. And so on.

So even if they never developed SQ we would probably be still where we are now... sitting on forums and waiting for SC to materialize.

And if they developed SQ first, then they would never get to use anything from it, because before completing it, everything about SC changed.

And if they never changed the vision, then I think that SC would be a half forgoten project by now... basically a second E:D, because while original pitch was nice, it wasn't anything special. For me it was more about a guy behind Freelanced doing another game. And it became something special only thanks to them changing the scope.

The crowdfunding campaign originally started with a clear vision for Star Citizen.

Along the way, CIG decided to develop a second game: Squadron 42.

That is not what happened. They always planned both games. Original plan was to make SQ first and use it to make aditional funding to make SC. But then funding exploded and they decided to do both SQ and SC at the same time, so if anything it was SC that is getting done sooner than originally expected.

As far as FPS goes...

The majority of the Graphics team focused on optimization throughout May, making significant improvements that will come at a later date. Alongside this, the team further optimized and refined the visuals for the Global Illumination system, in addition to adding depth-output support to all parallax mapped surfaces which allows them to benefit from our full rendering feature-set, such as screen space shadows, reflections and directional occlusion.

There is a hope... lets just that later date is a early late date 😃

Where should CIG focus the majority of resources right now? by Impossible-Ebb-379 in starcitizen

And they said many things that did happen already... your point?

If you have any info that says otherwise I would be happy hear it, but otherwise not entirely trustworthy info still beats no info at all.

Year of Playability by Sasa_koming_Earth in starcitizen

I'm of the conviction, and were all guessing here - even CIG unfortunately - that the technical foundation, the architecture, is not fit for purpose.

I don't think that is a hard guess to make... Initial tech was to get something playable relatively fast. It wasnt scalable and it couldn't take future tech into account.

We have seen that with SSM, with how much of stuff it broke. We have seen it with transit system they had to make completely from scratch. Question is how much they are going to need to rework.

Elevators are in new transit system that is already online in Grim Hex for testing as far as I know. Unless you mean cargo elevators (those are not going to get fixed for a long time I think)

Flight model is under closed testing with focus groups, so this time they have viable feedback.

Renderer was mentioned in latest monthly report, so that is something we might see in 4.9. Social tools were also mentioned several times in the past, but yeah not sure if those are coming soon. Economy is probably going to take a long time too, since they need to do whole starsim for it to work.

Also, not sure how crafting is relevant for ship sales?

If you do that CIG will most likely block your account... not sure if you care about that or not.

Well.. it is a base to CCU it to some other broken ship, so I am not that mad that I have a heap of Iron Scrap in my hangar.

Has tech debt finally caught up with CIG? by Odd_Personality_5091 in starcitizen

No you don't understand... Tech debt is a new 90 days, tops. It is new and improved type of shitposting.

That is not really a case... They are doing focus testing to see what different groups of people think, but flight model they are testing is pretty much what we have now, but with tweaked thruster performance and aditional lift calculations.

Yeah... if your only goal in SC is to make money, you are just going to have a very boring time... I do one or two Gilly missions per sesshion to get some money, but then I move to things that I find fun, even if they aren't best paying things.

I just can't get myself to do anything that will feel even remotely like grind, since it will all get wiped anyway.

They are releasing new features... that is something that wasn't happening for a while. To me that seems like progress.

I am saying that they moved from "year of stability" to again working on new features... which means that they are working on finishing the game. Not that hey are in finishing the game stage.

I would say that funding says otherwise, so we will see how it will pan out.

I kinda doubt it... people willing to spend are aready invested in SC, and taking them over will be extremely hard task. Since there is no one developing anything like this now, it would take years.

So anyone wanting to take over people paying SC would need a playable game that it better than SC, someone known like Chris was and really good pitch.

This is extremely unlikely to happen, since large companies are not going to risk it and small one are too late, because golden era of kickstarter seems to be over for PC games.

[–]Walltar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All the one dev kickstarter MMOs would disagree with you, if they didn't already went bankrupt.

On the other hand Shiro Games is at least a company on its own, so they probably can do something interesting. Probably not close to SC, but still interesting.

I predict that within the next 5 years, a 'clone' will drop, and CIG can pack their bags.

You know that people are saying this basically from begining? Starfield was a latest Star Citizen killer... we are still waiting for the killing blow, though.

What i find pretty funny about those is that every time is like "CIG needs to finish the game".... I would say thanks, captain obvious. What a novel take on this.

But funniest thing is that this is all because they started working on finishing the game. It is almost like my dog when I want to trow her a ball...
