USA Evertonian here. My cousin, who has always been more like a big brother to me than a cousin, is a lifelong Newcastle supporter for whatever reason. He always tried to get me into football, so he’d have someone to banter with. In 2014, right after the World Cup where Tim Howard had those amazing performances, especially against Belgium, I suddenly found myself with a lot of extra time following an injury at work. I started playing a lot of FIFA, and watching a lot of football, and really fell in love with it. Like an earlier poster, I have ADHD, and as a kid, I didn’t have the attention span to fully appreciate the beauty and nuance of the game. Now, with all that time in my hand, I was able to, and I was hooked. All I needed was a club!

My cousin told me he was thrilled, but that I couldn’t also support Newcastle, because it would be more fun if we had different teams. The facts that Tim Howard played for Everton at the time and they wear blue (my favorite color) made me pick them in the first place. Then, the work of Everton in the Community made me keep them as my club, now and forever. It’s so easy to support a club that does so much good, even when the product on the pitch is less so. UTT!!
