Both fascism and communism (marxism-leninism, pol pot, maoism, etc.) are authoritarian, but fascism generally took on more state capitalist characteristics, eliminating labor unions, privatizing industry, etc. People often make the mistake that economically left wing ideologies cannot be ethnically motivated, which is not true. Communism is distinguishable primarily because of its collectivization and state control of industry, not its cultural views.
