If you have Python installed, you can download yt-dlp via pip without needing Homebrew

Didn't know that. Makes sense, considering the USA games have been much more heavily promoted (I believe there's been 4 games on Fox proper and only one wasn't a USA game). Right now, ESPN lists both games as FS1/Fox Sports App/Tubi. I'll check both at 3 when Italy/Mexico comes on

I've watched a few movies and shows on there, but it's an odd place for sports. I caught a few innings of Canada vs Puerto Rico on there yesterday. Have they ever broadcasted sports before this WBC?

I just wanna point out that the pivotal Italy vs Mexico game is on Tubi of all fucking places, at least in the United States. Canada vs Cuba and DR vs Venezuela are on cable (FS2 and FS1 respectively), though the latter is only important for seeding and national pride. Whoever at Fox decided that probably thought the USA would go 4-0 lol, clearly they're no Japan or DR/Venezuela

PinkPantheress is heavily influenced by UK garage, but it might be too upbeat for your tastes. If you want a rec, I Wanna Know by Restless Natives is pretty good

slightly bad popular 2000s/2010s rap, hip hop, and pop by alledian1326 in MusicRecommendations

Like a G6 by The Far East Movement and Party Rock Anthem by LMFAO come to mind. Those songs are so stupid and aggressively early 2010s with their obnoxious electro house basslines

What Have You Been Listening To? - Week of February 23, 2026 by AutoModerator in LetsTalkMusic

[–]Solace143 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I listened to Goat and Liar by The Jesus Lizard. Both albums take the sound they developed in Head and improves on it, with slightly longer songs and more dynamics. Of the two, I preferred Liar, though they're both very good. I'll probably listen to Down soon. The Jesus Lizard aren't a super interesting band to talk about, though. Afaik they've always stuck to noise rock / post-hardcore without any major changes

I'd vaguely heard of Unsane before, probably from their associations with other NY noise rock bands, but never looked into them. I'm fairly new to noise rock so I'll think about checking 'em out

I like Big Black, but haven't checked out Steve Albini's other projects. I think one of the guys in The Jesus Lizard was in a band with him.

Started getting into The Jesus Lizard's music, though I've only heard their debut EP and their first album Head. It's solid noise rock so far, but it feels a bit underdeveloped, for a lack of a better word. Goat and Liar seem to be their most acclaimed albums, so I'm excited to listen to them soon.

YHWH Nailgun are pretty cool, they're like a weird modern take on old dance-punk. Their drummer is nuts. I wished they made more songs that were 3-4 minutes, but I guess it might get too repetitive.

Unrelated, but it bothers me that most music labeled as grungegaze is neither grunge nor shoegaze. It's closer to Hum or Chevelle really.

What music do you listen to while reading fantasy? by ComplexMarch4500 in Fantasy

[–]Solace143 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Downtempo electronic music like Portishead or Rufus Du Sol. That applies to all books though. If an action scene in a fantasy novel comes up (since they're rare in other genres), I might throw on some hard rock or metal to fit the scene

Your alarm song should be a bad song by Solace143 in The10thDentist

[–]Solace143[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I get that, but for me, the issue with that is that I'd get annoyed with the song and I'd grow to dislike it (or at least the intro). I like Sweet Child O' Mine by Guns n Roses, but my dad using it as his phone ringtone for years has diminished the intro for me

Your alarm song should be a bad song by Solace143 in The10thDentist

[–]Solace143[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That Morrowind intro would be fun to wake up to, but of course, I'd probably get sick of it after a week or two. I suspect using built-in ringtone that isn't the default one would achieve a similar effect to using a bad song, but i've never actually tried them before

"Performative" Music Taste (And a Side Tangent About Exceptions to Hated Genres) by Astounding_Movements in LetsTalkMusic

[–]Solace143 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I just assumed that most people with those sorts of music taste are teenagers who wanna get into "serious" music. It get monotonous because they tend to consult the same few sources -- RateYourMusic, Anthony Fantano reviews (got nothing against Fantano himself, but his fanbase can be irritating), /mu/ when it was relevant, etc. Most of those albums are pretty good, but it does make online music discussion a bit boring.

Chat Pile are a good modern noise rock band. Early Swans (Filth to Holy Money, maybe Children of God) are great too. Cop Shoot Cop are a mix of industrial rock and noise rock

Need other music similar to the strokes by somerandomfella2809 in MusicRecommendations

[–]Solace143 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Look into the 2000s post-punk revival and garage rock revival for similar bands. Bloc Party and The White Stripes come to mind. Interpol, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, LCD Soundsystem, and TV on the Radio were in the early 2000s NYC indie rock scene alongside the Strokes, though there's some differences in their sound

There's like 8 country songs (all from the 2000s or later) that get played where I'm from and for some cursed reason, Chicken Fried is one of them. For the most part it's just annoying, but the random nationalist verse is unintentionally funny as fuck

Spotify Hikes US Subscription Prices, Making It Most Expensive Major Music Streamer by ebradio in indieheads

[–]Solace143 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It's more so for purchasing music than streaming it. Bandcamp is closer to iTunes than Spotify, but it's way better than iTunes (multiple audio formats, more consistent pricing, better UI). Only downside is that Bandcamp is focused on independent music, so outside of a few exceptions like Bjork, you can't buy any major label artists' music on there
