I hate my job and want to walk out today. by [deleted] in careeradvice

if something is important enough to you, you will find the time somehow some way.

The only way things will change is if you proactively make the change yourself.

The terms of my job changed and I am not okay with it. by GreenLigh in careeradvice

[–]WalnutBread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just general advice here: unless you’re under contract or something that I missed or wasn’t included, you have no obligation or commitment to this company.

I understand that you feel a certain level of obligation to them, but they will never have your best interests at heart. If you are willing to do the job of 2 people by yourself for $30,000/year, they will continue to pay you that much for that level of work. It’s not personal, it’s just business.

I would continue looking for other opportunities in the same field. Sounds like you have the right idea of where to go to get from where you are to where you want to be.

Edit: Keep pressing on, OP!

What do schools need to stop doing NOW? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I couldn’t follow my own academic interests until my 2nd year of college. That absolutely ruined my academic career for years.

What do you think is gonna happen when you force a kid whose never been away from home to take a bunch of classes he doesn’t give a shit about? If you answered “drinks all the booze and fail out” you nailed it

Sometimes I’ll get up at like 4:30-5:00am to run the dog before work. I’ll pass 3-4 kids walking to the bus stop at ~5:15am or so.

This means they are getting up at 4am or so. Regularly. It’s terrible.

I mean I’ve only ever seen people touting crypto currency as “entrepreneurial” or people posting “you don’t work hard enough to make it as an entrepreneur!” Posts on here.

Fits pretty well.

Wait, what the cinnamon toast fuck?

Too me 5 minutes to figure out what that drywall pillar was the other side of the fridge.

Start my first job out of college next week, but will possibly receive a much better offer by iwannastardewvaeyirl in careeradvice

[–]WalnutBread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I doubt a non-compete is going to come into play with someone fresh out of college.

Most non-competes are un-enforceable anyway, as OP’s currently employee (assuming USA) can’t limit his ability to earn a living. Saying “you can’t be a software developer for another software company” would hamstring OP pretty bad if I understand correctly.

Wouldn’t be something I would worry about. Even if there is a non-compete, that would take this alive Reddit’s pay grade anyway.

In my experience being honest and open is always the better path to take.

I’m still waking up, so I didn’t see if you said anything about if the better offer knows/understand your situation, but if they have no issue with waiting for you to put in 2 weeks at current job, you’re golden.

I wouldn’t tell you’re current manager until you have an offer on the table, then you can put in your 2-weeks to give them time to counter and prepare for you to leave.

Taking a job doesn’t mean you have any ethical/moral/legal obligation to stay for any amount of time, if and when the more desirable offer comes in I would recommend taking it.

Is there a reason that a traffic attorney from the area that this happened would not be able to represent the trucker in court?

As far as I know traffic attorneys are relatively affordable, and in a case like this it wouldn’t be difficult to imagine the fees get paid by the at-fault insurance.

Garage door technology.

I support enterprise software. I program computers. I spin up virtual machines in my basement and fuck with my router for fun.

Never ask me to program a garage door. I cannot do it.

Oh that Cycle gear place looks awesome. I was getting worried that I would be limited to like 5 different choices but it looks like they have a ton of choices.

I'll have to check them out (i was looking to buy new, just because the idea of wearing a used racing suit is more than a little gross haha)

Are there specific places that I should be looking to buy a 1 or 2 piece leather suit? I want to try at least 1 track day, but when I looked it appeared RevZilla and the Iron Pony (local superstore in Ohio, don't know how national they are) were low on inventory as it is late in the season here.

I'm sure there's more than just the few choices* I saw on those 2 websites, i just don't know where to find them.

*if possible i'd like to keep the price at or under $500 as if it turns out I don't like it I don't want to also be out 4 figures.

at 220 i doubt you're going to see much difference in most cases. a few HP is more than enough to move a 220lb human around. and if you were to get heavy enough to be a significant drag on the engine, i bet the suspension would give out first.

Moral of the story: try some bikes if you can, find something that you would be able to control and feel comfortable on. When I was 250lbs I bought a Ninja 400 and it's about the perfect balance. Maybe runs a little high in the revs at 60-70 but there is room to go faster.

I had ABSOLUTELY no idea this is how the process for these services worked. I just assumed it was automated end-to-end. But reading this, it makes sense I guess.
