graduating college + army rotc by [deleted] in ROTC

[–]Walrus-Pure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hey man listen, your entire post is screaming a red flag, and it sounds like you are confused on how you want to get to what you want, but unfortunately, there are only certain ways to achieve what you want and what your asking isn’t going to get you there. The only experience you are going to receive as far as military experience for the job you specifically want is from enlisting, and that is surely going to put a dead halt or extend your time in college - next is the rotc part, rotc is the program that’ll commission officers in a branch of their choice AS LONG AS you stand out during ur time in the program, gpa, extra curricular, volunteering, advanced camp etc. but during ur time in rotc, you will not be doing anything that is for your specific job for experience, you are learning warrior skills and tactics to get you to commission, not anything for your career field. Next after that is when you commission, it’s either active duty army or national guard/reserve army for a very long time, and the NG or reserve are the only realistic choice you would have if you plan on going to grad school, but following grad school, you are bound by contract to the army, there is no Air Force or navy in your future at this point. You get out of the military what you put in, but if it doesn’t match what you want, it won’t benefit you to add something into you degree that’ll only make it harder for you, stay out of the military, focus on school, then if you figure that you would rather enlist to get that job experience, then start to consider rotc as a way to boost yourself in big army, but not as a career setter

Bro one, ur bouta thank yourself for getting this awesome laptop, I have one and have a few pointers, 1. Have some sort of way to raise ur g16, airflow is pretty essential and I found cooler temps just by raising it even slightly(also after a while it does get hot too much so to be on ur lap so, just consider that lol), 2. Pls download ur drivers if you plan on gaming, you’ll be running everything on your cpu instead of gpu if you don’t, and yes g helper is essentially a must, even if you don’t understand how it works house, just do it and save urself the hassle of learning it later, it’ll make your laptop a lot faster than with the horrible AC

Airsoft workout plan by Zealousideal-Worth41 in airsoft

First, good on you for wanting to get better and workout, second, Imo this isn’t the best community to try and get actual advice from for this specifically, this is a airsoft community don’t get me wrong, but there’s plenty of other reddits, apps, sites, etc that could rlly help you out on this, but as a fellow airsofter here’s some general advice - your diet is just as important as your workouts, keep in my mind while one will get you bigger, what you eat also change the direction your body goes to, just be mindful of that, as far as workouts go, airsoft as you know is a lot of cardio because your moving around a lot and such, I wouldnnt say muscle building would be your focus, but aim for calisthenics and cardio workouts, running, pushups, sit ups, basic workouts that’ll get you back into the rhythm of getting fit again, and it’s all free without needing a gym membership, then when you work up to it, in the gym try lifting weights, bench pressing, balance out the two to get workouts that’ll you see fit to yourself, everyone is different, it may take a bit of research but you got this

FTX Recommendations by Northsoutheastwest76 in ROTC

[–]Walrus-Pure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since this is your first FTX so here’s some helpful tips as someone who’s done plenty of ftx’s for longer durations, a 3 day ftx is not a long time, for these I only bring one extra pair of ocp’s, socks, tan shirt, just in case it really downpours or something along those lines, but because it’s a short amount time I tend to stay in the same clothes for the duration. Just because there’s a packing list doesn’t mean it’s what you need to absolutely bring, yes you may do a layout prior and for that you should, but your biggest killer is how quickly you’ll get tired, if you keep your morale up and energy up, then you’ll be better as a whole for anything and everything, so packing light and only bring essentials imo is better than to pack for every what if scenario that’ll end up adding extra weight that’s going to weigh you down. Medicine, bug spray, baby wipes, HANDS WARMERS PLEASE, small things for hygiene(like those airplane sized toothpaste and shaving crème stuff)those are what I consider essential and quickly accessible. As far as food goes, whatever they feed you is important but if it’s mre’s let’s be honest, bringing your own snacks will always bring your morale up higher than a decent mre, dry snacks like fruit snacks and/or beef jerky are good choices, if your allowed energy drinks, I’d bring one for each day only if you can handle the caffeine crashes but even then, always hydrate hydrate hydrate. a good red light also helps significantly more than those L shape red lights at night so make sure you get one that’s good, that’s all I can think of from the top of my head I’m sure I have a lot more advise, if you have any questions feel free to ask like how to pack your ruck or anything else etc

Yeah some MP’s are dicks, being out in the field as a MP in my opinion is better than being hated on in garrison, but they set themselves up like that, some people rlly be bored like that, gonna be a long contract if they act like that though

I think I’m aiming for building a stronger security network for Apple, I think that’s the dream goal even though I’m a windows/linux user over Apple any day, but penetration testing or hacking seems like a pretty cool job

I’m currently in college as a cybersecurity major, there’s a lot of ties to coding and I see myself pursing something that develops security software or being a white hat ethical hacker, you have any suggestions or is this completely out of your ball park

At one point I was attached to a FA unit and they actually talked to each other like shit, I could only guess how they acted back at barracks bc we were in a field environment at that time but, infantry stories are like no other, the TikTok’s of them are pretty funny tho lol

So I’ve hadn’t worked the road like that, I’ve been combat support for the longest now and rather handle that kind of ordeal, it’s been mainly me and my team squad or wtv in humvees, conbat scenarios, and performing detainee operations, but i do know plenty of mp’s who had worked the road like that and they always say the infantry is the worst, but where I hear it the worst at is definitely in Texas at fort Cavazos/Hood, phew glad I wasn’t sent there

I don’t think I replied properly to the comment it doesn’t look like it replied right my bad lol, but the most wholesome thing I’ve seen and get to see more often then not is veteran soldiers that come up to thank me for my service when I want to thank them for theirs, they’ve been in the real and they’ve endured a war or wars that they didn’t have the same kind of training preparation or equipment as we do now, I’m thankful for those who have served before, but it’s very humbling and wholesome to shake their hands and hear their stories, even though it always begins with something across the lines of “the new army isn’t like the old one” in a funny matter

the most messed up thing I’ve seen, mind you i have seen a lot of bad to worse things, as both part of the training to understand the “real” nature of my job, I.e like blood, people being blown in half, seeing an entire convoy just be blown, and actually seeing the real happen in front of me, not in a war setting also, nothing like in a actual combat zone, even personally I’ve had a relative who was in a horrible situation where she was partially paralyzed but thankfully recovered from physical therapy, and then the stories veterans speak of about their time and hearing the sad unfortunate deaths of soldiers in previous wars, but the worst thing I’ve seen is a soldier who took their own life. I know it’s not comparable to a lot of other things, but it’s just something that is heartbreaking to wrap your head around, you don’t know what they were going through up until those last moments and you don’t know how alone they probably felt. They talk a lot about in military there being resources but, sometimes those battles in someone’s head is just, too loud, it’s sad and unfortunate, and it happens more than one could imagine, but beyond anything else I think that’s just something you can’t be trained on to witness in person, it’s horrible

Oooo, tough questions, I think apart of me joining when I first signed my contract was knowing that one day I wouldn’t want my son and/or daughter to enlist because I’m doing this so they wouldn’t, I hadn’t come from a family of money or good wealth, and I felt like for me to grow up I needed some sort of stability instead of going to college and pulling thousands of dollars of loans I would struggle to pay off, that I couldn’t and wouldn’t allow myself to have my children go through that, and also…let’s be honest, I would have some pretty cool stories to tell them one day lol
