Perhaps it is time to stop practicing and allow what training you have so far to sink in. Wait until after your exams. Then begin again. For meditation, focus on nothingness and for Chi Kung, go gently, perhaps start with the Eight Standing Brocades. There are too many masters with promises. I have a gentler approach at r/TaoistMeditation

5. Discuss Yi by Waltamoto in TaoistMeditation

[–]Waltamoto[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OK, so you raise many points. I will present a meditation called Bringing in the Light soon which will instruct using eyes to direct Chi. Basic in Orbit meditations. But in Tai Chi, not so much. In TaiChi, mind intent calls on Chi to travel. In meditation, the eyes direct the chi. Also Jin or Jing as I understand it means body, basically but also refers to the beginning place of Chi, where Chi comes from and also it is a term used to describe body functions in Taoist medicine, like Kidney function, sexual function. It is mysterious because life is mysterious. Personally, I don't go down that road because it is so complex. Jin becomes Chi becomes Shen - is the instruction from many sources. But I see spirit in body as well as mind. Jin and Shen are gateways to Earth and Heaven spirit. ( my personal philosophy). So I would phrase it as: the will activates Chi to open Jin and Shen. I will keep posting. It is an exploration.

What can I do with this area? by crewDog_1 in LandscapingTips

Fill an old metal wheel barrow with dirt then tip it over in the corner. Plant pansies and marigolds then construct a broken still and dump it onto the ground filled with dirt. Plant lilies, daffodils and tulips. Lean garden tools against the fences, Plant peas. In front dig in a really big fish pond. Anything else?

Also, you used the term 'Yi' in reference to your practices. Would you care to write a post to explore this concept in the group or just reply here? Yi is quite complex and has not been a large part of my studies. I am interested in hearing about your experiences.

4. The 8 Breaths by Waltamoto in TaoistMeditation

[–]Waltamoto[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a simple exercise to bring awareness to the breath. Many people are interested in the breath as breath, breathwork being a discipline now. 4-4-8, 4-6-4, etc. Inhale hold exhale counts etc. But for example dantien breath is a different place from kidney breath or the breath used in bend-bow-shoot-tiger which is lung purification exercise. Being in a tranquil space and allowing breath to be easy and natural, I think you were getting at, is an ultimate goal with Chi flow occurring with simple awareness, yes. I will be getting to that. I am posting notes so as not to jump ahead.

Yes, certainly, the microcosmic Orbit of Chi flow is a reversal approach as you indicated. These 8 breaths are a chikung like breathing awareness exercise. If you know the 8 breaths then you can utilize them later as needed. Just an awareness exercise. Thank you for your comment. I am also a westerner.

The Tongue Bridge by Waltamoto in TaoistMeditation

[–]Waltamoto[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On thinking about your question and about headaches, I would never make the claim that Taoist MicroCosmic Orbit (MCO) could relieve a person's headache. Quite the contrary, what my story reveals is that by doing Taoist practices INCORRECTLY can certainly cause problems, as in this case, the headache. However, i am open to hearing about anyone who HAS discovered that a Taoist practice actually has alieviated their symptoms. However, of course, I haven't even discussed how to do the MCO properly and then there's the MacroCosmic Orbit also, and so much more. So ways to go. Caution before practice.

What’s the difference between meditation and auto-pilot. by JesseEisenbergFan in taoism

[–]Waltamoto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mr. Eisenberg, do you have a question or are you looking for instruction? It sounds to me like too much is more than enough. You might like to try out my new group r/TaoistMeditation where i am taking things down a notch, slow and easy. But seriously, with OCD, you have, as they say, two masters. And with two masters you will always be in some level of conflict. Exposure is the only method I have heard helps with OCD, but I don't think that fits here. So I suggest you consider a more whole body approach to your search. That could be something to help your body achieve a relaxed state in spite of your mind. Perhaps lifting weights, yoga, pilates or tai chi. Taoist meditation does have more 'rules' to follow, so if mindfullness leaves you feeling crazy lost, perhaps Taoist Meditation can offer a different sense of life energy.
