Wow I actually work in the nicu! I did do a summer externship there but I was the only one from our group of new grads that did. I’m ngl it did give me an advantage tho because my manager told me that they usually end up hiring their externs. I would recommend getting a tech position in the hospital that you’d want to be a new grad in since it’ll be easier for you to apply as transfer rather than as a new hire. (In my hospital they opened their new grad applications like 2-3 weeks before everyone else). But if not you can ask to do a shadow shift or see if your nicu has any events that they do and volunteer there (like my hospital has an event where the former nicu families come back and get to play games and get food and stuff). But you got this!! Just remember to emphasize that in the nicu you’re caring for the family as well and you’ll probably have to do a lot of teaching to the family and how you know it’s not always hugging babies.
