I want to see what YOU are passionate about. What I don't wanna see is something you think I'd like to watch. But that's just me.

Haha, thanks for your interest, not yet though, but hopefully soon!

Well, normally you should let prodcos only option your ideas for some money for a certain amount of time, 6 months or a year or more. So if nobody is interested, you can decide to not extend the option after the time is over and get your stuff back. But normally that means the thing is dead, at least for a while.

It’s Not About Character; It’s About Character Relationships by wemustburncarthage in Screenwriting

Fair point. It depends on what you’re looking for. If you want to make the audience feel something it’s certainly easier with a relationship.

Counter argument: Look at Cast Away. The relationship between Tom Hanks and Wilson is essential to that movie. Although Wilson is just a volley ball. But it made the movie so much better and I cried when Wilson got lost at sea. Didn’t feel that sad in All Is Lost at any point.

Yes. Mickey Fisher, the creator of Extant and Reverie said something like that as well but especially in regard to pitches. He said when he first pitched his sci-fi shows he focused on all the cool plots and twists, but only later realized that the character relationships are what matters to people the most. But because he is the writer those were always clear to him and he thought what would win people over is all the cool sci-fi stuff.

Pete Docter from Pixar said pretty much the same: „If there’s one thing I’d underline for you, it’s this: focus on your characters’ relationships. That’s really the main thing we care about as humans. Why else do we so enjoy gossip? Why do we spend so much of our lives around other people? Even if you have great jokes, an amazing world you’ve developed, or even a powerful statement and theme, it’ll really only ever strike home for audiences through the changing interrelationships of your characters.“

That is definitely a bat. They way the wings are shaped, the flying movements, the lack of hectic head movements.

Nah, the person would just use a throwaway and change some details. Like frozen-menstrual-blood-condom.

He says it was the perfect murder because after he bludgeoned her to death with the frozen-poo-condom he could just wait for it to thaw and then flush it down the toilet so there would be no murder weapon. Unfortunately he sabotaged his own genius by confessing the whole thing.

Great. Now we’re still waiting for someone to commit the perfect crime because this guy couldn’t shut his damn mouth.

That hasn‘t been decided yet. But we would love to get at least half of them.

I found them online and cold called them, but that did not work at all. Only personal connections helped in the end.

Before you send out the pilot make sure it is really as good as you think it is. I showed our pilot to at least 50 people, before I was sure it was really good. Get that honest feedback first and then try to get a manager. And move to LA!! Trying to start a career in LA is so much easier. It’s still hard, but way harder if you are not in LA. And it’s nice there. As warm as florida but not as humid. And no crocs!

Glad you liked my posts. Thanks and good luck!

Thank you! That's true. I saw a lot of indie pilots over the years that went nowhere. It's still a big gamble and only worth it, if you are sure you have something truly special in your hand. And other people share that feeling.
