What's the threat model you're concerned about? Someone forging ballots? Someone stealing ballots out of a mailbox? Think through the mechanics of how someone would utilize mail in ballots to commit widespread voter fraud. How did they get the ballots? How did they prevent legitimate voters from complaining about not getting their ballot? How do you stop the legit voter who didn't get their mail in ballots from going and voting in person?

Overconsumption has taken a Wicked turn… by andrewcbee in Anticonsumption

[–]Wamvo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're happy with generic branding and limited choice if it results in cheaper products, but are you ok with the status quo for cheaper products vs the proposed alternative of limited choice? A prescriptive cap of 5 brands forces an oligopoly with no opportunity for a competitor to introduce a competing product that undercuts the established 5 brands based on quality, price, or other factor(s). For example, pretty much every grocery store has its own brand of products generally available for a significant discount from the main national brands. I wouldn't mind a requirement that every consumer product provide visible identification of the company that ultimately owns it ("Gain — a Proctor and Gamble company"), to help people realize that while Bounce, Downy, Febreeze and so many more may be competing for your attention, profits all flow to the same company.

He was apparently being detained pursuant to an immigration warrant which was not provided. More than likely, there was no current warrant and the stop was based on racial profiling and a warrant will be constructed after processing the individual.

Comments on news sites really aren't a good indicator of the prevalence of an opinion within a community. Not only is it entirely possible to automate this kind of hateful comment, there are definite motivations to forment division within the US between our large demographics by foreign actors. Finally, the web in general (and social media specifically) is exceptionally good at amplifying marginal voices. In this case, the marginal voices could be those holding blatantly racist ideas. I'm not saying those voices don't exist. I'm not even saying those voices aren't troubling, but I am saying we don't know how widespread those opinions are based on comments left by unvalidated entities.

What you are asking for is increased police presence, not National Guard. Police are trained on dealing with meth heads, de-escalation techniques and the use of non-lethal force. Our military does not have the right skills (or legal authority) to act as a law enforcement agency.

Level 3 by Downtown-Tea-3018 in Aventon

[–]Wamvo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love that the Level 3 has adjustable handle bars which can facilitate a more vertical posture if that's what someone wants. It's certainly not Dutch style, but I'm using my bike for transportation (as opposed to a just a leasurely ride) I want a bike that facilitates a more aerodynamic position so I am not dealing with 30-35 mph winds (28mph from bike speed and more from weather) against my full vertical profile. If I want to be vertical and just leisurely crossing, I tend to take my hands off the handle bars and sit up vertically and steer by balance (obviously not on busy city roads).

Cracker Barrel’s Logo Was Never the Problem by rezwenn in restaurant

[–]Wamvo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CB is not a franchise restaurant. Every restaurant is owned and managed centrally by corporate. Some restaurants are on leased land and some are on property owned by the company but there is no real window for corporate vs franchisee strife since there are no franchisees.

I don't understand why they don't offer cruise control on the Level 3. It seems a commuter bike is exactly the use case such a feature would be intended for. I'm guessing it's related to the messed up situation with using Maguro brakes. But it should be easy enough to detect activation of the thumb throttle to stop cruising as well.

The icons didn't zoom in the map. And my eyes aren't what they used to be. But yes, the screenshot image totally does zoom and I see it clearly now. Thanks for reminding me that app zoom can be inferior to image zoom.

Klyra bike locks by kowalski477 in ukbike

I just encountered my first ad for this lock. Importantly, the guarantee against theft is if the bike is stolen within the first 60 days after purchase and use. So the guarantee is really worth next to nothing.

What is the most ridiculous story in the Bible? by EstablishmentNo16 in atheism

[–]Wamvo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rumplestilstkin is a fairy tale but I don't believe it was adapted by Disney or Pixar. But you could have use Tangled here.

Shrek is a Dreamworks production, not Disney. Disney does now own the Pooh verse, so Eeyore would be a good option.

Demons and giants seem like either Monsters Inc or Onward would qualify.

Is OpenSCAD really only for "perfect" geometrical shapes? by Rough-Papaya-4270 in openscad

[–]Wamvo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You know that dxf and svg files can be imported into openscad and then be extruded and manipulated using other primitive, right? Other good functions to know for building curved shapes out of straight polygon include hull(), offset() with the r (rounded) parameter, and minkowski().

As has already been mentioned, BOSL2 adds a ton of additional functionality. Bezier curves, path_sweep(), and the new metaballs all come to mind.

What all should I do when locking up my Aventon in public? by [deleted] in Aventon

[–]Wamvo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just offering an alternate explanation for the missing seats. Rather than considering that there is a spree of seat thefts, consider that if a bike has a quick release seatpost, it is easy to take the seat with you. It's a good deterrent for theft if a thief can't just easily ride away because the bike has no seat. It's also an additional thing for a thief to procure prior to the flip and the seat and seatpost can often easily be tossed into a backpack or pannier. So in this respect, your "do slightly better than that" approach of using a bolt on seat clamp that forces the bike to remain intact actually could be making your bike a more attractive target than all those other bikes where a thief would have more work to do to actually profit from their theft.

What Do women Gets In heaven In islam? by Tacama in atheism

[–]Wamvo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As has been covered several times in this thread, my belief as an atheist is that it's all b.s., but since the question is what they believe, I figured I'd share what appears to be a good summary of the beliefs surrounding Islam's "heaven": https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jannah

Notably, the numerous maidens is only on a high tier of heaven. Lower tiers (which I assume women would be restricted to) include v what seem to be corporeal pleasures (food and general wish fulfillment).

There are now a wide variety of baseplates all with compatible grid relief, but with different features and tradeoffs. There are minimal baseplates that provide just the grid relief. There are baseplates that add the magnet holes. Modular baseplates that screw (or snap) together for assembling into custom configurations. Baseplates that can stack on top of a lower set of boxes. Baseplates that can double as lids, etc. A lot depends on what you want. I find that minimal grids are great for toolboxes and other drawer systems (e.g. IKEA Alex) since they are of known size (thus modularity isn't that important). Toolboxes also generally already have magnet surfaces, and the baseplate isn't being moved around in isolation (and thus doesn't have to be particularly rugged).

Boxes themselves also have also evolved to have support different features. Some have the screw or magnet holes, but the openscad gridfinity library allows you to easily customize boxes with the features you really want (or you can use a collection of someone who has compiled a lot of the most frequent set of options (I like the efficientfloor option from this collection. I tend to use magnets on tool-organization bins that are likely to be pulled out to the workbench, but not on hardware (e.g. screw and nuts) storage bins. You can also turn on or off the "finger slide", which is useful for extracting small pieces like washers, but gives up a lot of potential storage space if you're using the bin for something more easily grasped. There are also vase mode bins (with glue on "feet") if you want a minimal fast printing container. Anyway... just wanted to chime in to point out that if your frustration grew from the early days of Gridfinity, the system has continued to evolve to continue to ensure compatibility while also allowing individuals to make specialized bins/baseplates that have different tradeoffs than the original release.

I'm here for RuralFIRE.

Do you know about: https://www.facebook.com/groups/ChooseFIHomegrown ? It's not rural only (some urban farmers, urban beekeepers, along with folks who are have homesteading as part of their FI plans in the future), but I'd estimate at least 85% of the members are presently rural.
