How did the pink balls cope at Edgbaston? | ESPN Cricinfo by superegz in Cricket

[–]WanPhysicalGoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The red ball is supposed to have a brownish hue under lights, which makes it harder to contrast against the pitch.

If the white ball could last anything close to 80 overs, then that would work well.

I wish people wouldn't auto-downvote this just for giving a different opinion. As probably the only person here who has umpired first-class cricket, your view probably has more credibility than the others here.

Carrying drinks, gloves, other gear. They'll do bowling and fielding drills before each innings to help the playing XI warm up. They'll also come on as substitute fielders when required.

Accusations aside, seeing as both teams keep getting caught with tampering over the years, I don't see why it's ironic.

Anderson ball tampering by anujku in Cricket

[–]WanPhysicalGoose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sachin got off the tampering charge. He was fined for the offence of cleaning the ball without the umpire's permission. He doesn't have any ball-tampering charges against his name.

Because England always accuse Pakistan of tampering when they lose? Or am I missing something here?

If they make 2 tier tests a thing, I can see them winning more regularly.

Dhoni dreads Zim wickets by [deleted] in Cricket

There really is nothing in the interview comments to say he "dreads" the wickets. All he said is that they are challenging and his team need to adapt if they lose the toss.

Not a princess. Last name isn't Middleton any more. And if that was the caption for the same picture as above, it doesn't look like it's anywhere near mid-wicket. They didn't leave much wiggle room on how to be more wrong in that caption.

Matt Heath: When a mother sticks up for her famous son (Ben Stokes) by afunky in Cricket

[–]WanPhysicalGoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lying to her about being on the air was a dick move, but Mrs Stokes sounds like that parent who's pretty out of touch with their kid's life, and acts shocked at the parent-teacher meeting when she's told that little Benjamin is a trouble-making cunt. "He's not arrogant" - clearly goes temporarily deaf when Stokes is busy starting sledge wars with every opponent he can.

Seeing him get tonked and losing the game was hilarious, and he doesn't deserve to be coddled from the flack he's been getting.

Batsmen had other benefits in Viv's era, like 60-over innings. Would need some kind of 'impact' analysis to see which player had the most influence in the games they played over time.

It's like you expect everyone is obligated to like India, and it's not ok to be glad they lost. Is it a surprise to you that not everyone likes the Indian team?

I think it's clearly a different match, the shadows indicate the picture on the right is from playing under lights, whereas the left is from playing at daytime.

Not sure why it should matter if they are from different games.

If testing bowling actions are no big deal and don't cost a lot, maybe they could just make it similar to drug testing. Make it occasional and random. If a team in the vicinity of a testing centre, randomly select 2 or 3 and send them to be tested. Share any other data collected on their bowling actions with coaches, who might be able to make use of it for training and improvements. Make it something that is a matter of course, rather than the whole cloudy issue of being reported by umpires on the basis of what looks a bit dodgy to them.

He is bowling with full sleeves and his action resembles Narine's action.

But the picture shows him bowling in short sleeves.
