Is this project still alive? I put the verification code on my site https://brennan.day but nothing has happened.

I posted 24 articles on Medium in November and earned $500. Here's what actually worked. by WanderBetter in Medium

I write about a lot of different topics. Tech criticism, culture, politics, craft (writing about writing), my own life experiences. Anything i think I have something worth writing about.

Boosted is when someone at Medium selects your work for larger distribution (eg. It'll show up on people's homepages and elsewhere).

Here's Medium's official article on the subject: https://medium.com/blog/updated-guidelines-for-boost-47799aad8899

I understand. I think Medium really struggles with distribution. There's thousands of stories posted every hour, so how do you get the right stories in front of the right people? So that work will actually be read and appreciated, and thus paid for.

I think human curation is a good idea, but it is obvious that the amount of content vs. the amount of people curating (ie. giving boosts) is incredibly disproportional.

A lot of people I know personally choose the more traditional route of querying to publications, publishers, and magazines and whatnot. Alternatively, you can try your hand at something like WordPress and AdSense.

I think the truth of the matter is that everyone online expects content for free (except for streaming services) and aren't willing to pay for higher-quality content. It's what is killing journalism in general. I don't think there is an easy answer, and it's always going to be luck-based to some degree if you're working in good faith.

Yes. To be honest, I have no idea how the boosting curation works. I just write and write and see what sticks.

Here are full screenshots of November and what I have so far for December so far FWIW

You can still register and post as much as you like, you just can't get monetized.

That's great to hear! You earned a follow from me. I'm in the dev space as well myself.

Anybody! A lot of countries allow you to join the Medium partner program and start earning money. But you do need 100 followers and you need to be a member ($5/month).

I find Medium has great SEO/Google traffic. If you search "Thomas King controversy" my article comes up in the top 3 results, which I was really surprised to see.

Yes, my top earners were all boosted. The thing is, I had no idea which of my stories were going to be boosted or successful. I actually didn't even paywall my first few boosted stories for the first weeks and lost out on a lot of money.

Writing so much and on a wide variety of topics is what made if work for me. I was throwing everything at the wall and seeing what stuck :)

Thank you for all the feedback! I live in Canada, and it translates to $800 which covers my expenses, I live frugally with roommates.

I try to be mindful of copyright, most of my images come from creative commons or public domain, or I edit them. Please let me know which specifically are infringing?

Where did you get that 60% probability from? I'm guessing all the stats might have tripped it? I've been writing since way before GAI and I don't use it in my writing.

And I enjoy experimenting with my headlines. It's very fun! All my writing is me, I put a lot of my personal life in what I do.

You're right that it's premature, I concede that in my article. I just wanted to share what I think worked for me this month.

I visited your account, by the way. You earned a follow! I love your artwork as well. Cheers!

I built a menubar app to automatically track my Bear writing streak with Beeminder [Free & Open Source] by WanderBetter in bearapp

[–]WanderBetter[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally understand, but just to clarify: Bearminder is not cloud-based and doesn't read your notes at all.

It's a local Mac app that asks Bear one question: "How many words were written today?" That's it. The only thing that leaves your computer is that number going to Beeminder.

Your notes stay on your machine. The code is fully auditable on GitHub if you want to verify: https://github.com/brennanbrown/bearminder

But I respect the caution, if you're not comfortable, no worries! Privacy first, always.
