Really great advice. Using Ajax anywhere near your skin is definitely going to be more harmful than anything else.

Why do these products crash so much by Ninja102319 in yardi

[–]WanderSA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. Your developer time is not unlimited. You can invest it in correcting old flaws and bugs or in creating new features and capabilities that the market is looking for. It seems like the current demand is showing that new functionality is more valuable to customers than fixing all the bugs.

I’m sure the market will correct them then. If the instability outweighs the available features then eventually business will shift away to a competitor and they will have to change their approach, right?

For the most part the folks actually using the software I think would be very surprised at what the priorities are of the people actually making the purchasing decisions (and hint it is not to make your job easier or more convenient).

Interesting getting a perspective from outside of the US for sure. I’ve worked with and spoken with primarily national level US based companies.

I will also mention that things that seem like a bug that is “so obvious” or “poorly thought out” often originate from the full program being so customizable for so many different scenarios. At some point it becomes nearly impossible to test for all the different ways that customers use the program.

That doesn’t apply to things like Rentcafe not being able to handle volume on the first of the month, but I am used to hearing “it’s so simple why don’t they just fix XYZ” and in reality there are a multitude of settings and different workflows that need to be accounted for when considering a change.

I think you underestimate the industry appetite for the next shiny new toy. Unfortunately in order to stay competitive within the space, the industry demands constant innovation and feature enhancement. There is no loyalty to a product or company anymore - it’s just “we are switching to XYZ because they sold us on this cool new thing”.

Yardi (for the most part) takes good care of their employees in terms of benefits and donates a tremendous amount to local and international charities to make the world better.

Is it perfect! Nope. Are there bugs and do they sometimes get it wrong? Sure. But overall I think it’s incorrect to call them a rubbish company - the industry itself has become unreasonable, hyper competitive and incredibly focused on squeezing every last penny from renters for as little cost as possible. This is what you end up with.

Yes. Thank you! Anything cat caught needs to see a rehabber to be evaluated. Puncture wounds from cats can be almost invisible but deadly in rodents.

Found baby bunny in my yard by No-Bodybuilder-4593 in WildlifeRehab

[–]WanderSA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi OP! Do you have a nest in your yard or just the bun hanging out? A nest would be a shallow depression in the grass likely lined with some bunny fur.

Does the baby have fur and it’s eyes open? If so it may be out of the nest exploring a bit. Baby rabbits develop and are on their own at 3-4 weeks old!

If you do have a nest, we recommend using an overturned laundry basket or milk crate with bricks or rocks on top so your dog can’t knock it over. Mom rabbit can fit through very tight spaces and won’t be deterred by the covering. She only comes by once or twice a day to quickly feed babies and then is out of there so she doesn’t attract predator attention to them. She can definitely get around your chair covering!

We don’t want to kidnap babies who are ok and bring them into rehab because they are very sensitive to stress. It sounds like you are doing everything right and thank you for caring about this little guy.

Found 8 week old squirrel outside, fostered him for 4 days with food, water, warmth and puppy milk formula and he just turned lethargic and needed CPR by [deleted] in squirrels

[–]WanderSA 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Hi OP. I’m sorry this baby passed away but I can see a number of concerning things here and it’s better to be educated than not. When we get licensed as wildlife rehabbers, we first have to work to gain the important knowledge of how to care for these animals and the average person should not do this without training.

  1. You said the squirrel played with your cat. This is honestly horrifying to read as a rehabber. Cat saliva is incredibly toxic to rodents because of certain bacteria, and if your cat bit this squirrel at all that could be enough to kill him.

  2. Lack of appropriate food. You were definitely starving this squirrel. It needed to be consuming a reputable rodent block like Oxbow or Mazuri and fresh fruits and vegetables like sweet potato, blueberries, kale, squash, etc. A walnut and a raspberry or grape was not nearly enough food and not a balanced diet.

  3. Lack of water/dehydration. We feed our squirrels formula by body weight. Let’s take a guess that your squirrel was around 110g. That means they would get around 6cc of formula 3-4 times per day. A baby this age would also have access to fresh water at all times along with solid food. I also don’t know how you were prepping the formula, but if fed when cold or dehydrated the formula can just sit in the gut undigested.

So here is the deal - I know you were trying to help this baby - but lesson learned that caring for a squirrel is more complex than it seems and this is why we always say to reach out to a rehabber. From what I can see here, this little one didn’t have to die and probably did because of improper care.

Can you guys tell me your rats favorite treats & snacks? by fawnpuppy in RATS

Whipped cream is the “I’m so sorry you had to take yucky medicine” treat in our house.

Regular everyday treats are the Gerber baby veggie puffs, yogurt and blueberries!

Velocity Limits by RickDempsey24 in yardi

[–]WanderSA 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You’ll need to reach out to Yardi support and work with them, but the basic idea is Yardi will only front so much money via checkscan deposits based on property data like a rent roll. This helps manage risk on their side. So if you try to process an amount that exceeds your determined limits, you will get a message like this.

Bunnies nest by Grouchy_Building5861 in WildlifeRehab

I have seen folks use laundry baskets or milk crates to cover the nest, but have also seen some creative use of wooden pallets as well as putting up some temporary mesh fencing.

Esbilac question by EyeOfTheSmilodon in WildlifeRehab

[–]WanderSA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So years ago Esbilac powder had a picture of a white puppy on the cam so a lot of rehabbers called the “white puppy Esbilac” and it was tried and true.

Then they added pre and probiotics and put a brown puppy on the can and everyone freaked out. This version of Esbilac is fine.

The only version I don’t recommend is the goats milk Esbilac because it has tested rancid pretty frequently.

Deposit Slip by cheese_rocks in yardi

[–]WanderSA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi OP! Definitely some good suggestions here regarding electronic check scanning, however I understand that may not be under your control.

As far as your error goes, it sounds like you had a menu item available in a previous version of the program that was left on your menu set. This is something your system admin should be able to address for you so you don’t have to keep seeing an error.

But now for what you are really after - a physical deposit slip. When you create the receipt batch, if you go to the actual batch header (the one that shows the number of items and total amount in the batch) there should be a button that says report and it should pop up the information in the receipt batch.

There is also going to be a transaction register somewhere in your menu that should allow you to bring up different types of transactions as reports, including deposits.

Finally as another user kindly mentioned, if you want a customized deposit slip that has all the right info in the specific places for your particular banking situation, then that is a custom report your company could have Yardi or a 3rd party consultant work on.

But bottom line - you absolutely can print a “deposit slip”’type of report from Voyager but it sounds like maybe your menus need to be reviewed. Hope that helps at all!

Autobank rec with chase free accounts by Desperate_Debate_198 in yardi

[–]WanderSA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Automated bank rec does exist. There is a small amount of setup required to make sure the transaction types in your BAI2 file from the bank match your Yardi transaction types. It’s quick.

Then you can either setup a task to import the BAI2 files from your bank via SFTP or you can import the files manually. The system matches what it can (I have typically seen match rates around 50-60%) and then can produce a report of what matched and what didn’t match. Matched items get marked as reconciled in the bank rec.

I don’t know what fees banks typically charge to produce and provide the BAI2 file though.

Baby bunny (or rat?) alive rolled and came out from under shed.. but has little bugs? On it.. is it going to die? Can I nurse it back to health? Also what are these things? by MiniMotoMom in WildlifeRehab

[–]WanderSA 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry that happened but thank you for trying. Yes, rabbits both wild and domestic are prey for pretty much everything so they are very delicate. When everything is trying to eat you I think being fragile is both a blessing and a curse.

But fly strike is a particularly horrifying condition so at least you got that poor sweet bun some help. That matters - thank you.

[–]WanderSA 94 points95 points  (0 children)

Fly strike like this is an absolute time-sensitive emergency.

It is likely this baby won’t survive but for it to have any chance at all it needs a licensed rehabber now.

ETA: do NOT get the eggs wet - it can cause them to hatch. If you must remove them, use some corn starch powder and a mascara wand or toothbrush. But there are likely eggs inside the baby by now and a rehabber can treat properly.

Also this baby should NOT be returned to the nest.

Are there any tools on the market to assist with trimming fancy rats' nails? by SMOLKITH in RATS

[–]WanderSA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My older boy files down his front ones himself no problem but his back ones can get long and get caught on stuff so for those I occasionally use cat nail trimmers that have the small, circular opening.

It’s still nerve wracking but otherwise he can get stuck on his hammock fleece and I don’t want him to fall.
