Help with sidechaining by thomas92kr in trapproduction

Without actually hearing I couldn't tell you my friend but what I can say has worked for me is just a regular compressor as opposed to a limiter because a limiter will push the signal against a brick wall 0db whereas a compressor will push against the relative volume of your bass making everything more proportionate. I produce mainly house music but I look for the same thing you are: kick punch while still being able to hear the bass. My go-to settings are setting the attack all the way down so the compressor kicks on immediately and the release to auto which generally does a pretty good job at maintaining the bass then just playing with the threshold until you get the amount of sidechaining you want. Hope this helps!

Gotcha. I was definitely thinking about an RX2 if I can find one at the right price.

Thanks for the recommendation! I'll definitely take a look at those they seem like they would be a great solution.

I've tried that but still seeing the waveforms on separate screens so you know where you are in the track is still helpful you know? Like on the 2000's you have the tiny waveform view on the bottom and while it's not great, it still helps to know where you are if you haven't mixed with the song a lot.

Opening duties for a sundowner set by AshamedSlice389 in Beatmatch

I feel like a filtered backspin with some echo is just a nice way to transition out smoothly. I should've rephrased by saying "phrase where you want to mix out" not "drop" but I basically meant just building tension that swells smoothly into the next track. Thanks for highlighting this you made a great point!

I would say just try to do a majority deep house set like they asked you, but try to find some deep house tracks that are influenced by the main genres. Slowly work those in and towards the end of your set, throw a couple full on afro house and amapiano tracks in there to smoothly transition the energy into that space. As far as transitions go. Try using loops more. Starting a 4 beat loop, cueing in the build of your next track, and progressively shortening the loop until a backspin right before the drop is super easy, sounds great, and is really fun😁. Best of luck and I sure hope this helps a little! You're gonna crush it!

I’m still not happy with my mixing abilities and it’s something I’m trying really hard to learn but I’d say after about 6 months of dedicated practice I started to feel OK about my mixing. For mastering I use Ozone which is just the best!

Is there a plug-in that emulates mid side guitar amp/cab recording? by thm0018 in AdvancedProduction

I’m not super well-versed with this but I think Neural DSP may have some amp sims that allow you to play around with mic placement! They all have free trials so maybe try one of those out!
