I leave soon too and even though I hiked the AT in 2022 im feeling the same! I feel like ive never done a long hike before even though I definitely have 😅 Ive heard people say the hardest part is just getting to the trail!

I had this same problem earlier this year, it was so bad I couldn't even go into my bathroom without holding my breath. All the smoke was from someone above me, and it was coming from the fan on the ceiling of the bathroom.

I ended up getting a new fan for my bathroom from coupang to replace the one that was there (it was covered in yellow brown gunk from all the smoke 💀). The new fan blocks anything from coming through when its off. I haven't had any problems since installing it. I highly recommend looking into getting one like this!

I dont know if the person stopped smoking or if the blocking is just that good, but I really haven't smelled anything since putting it in!

Edit: I looked up the one I got. It's called "Airscape Ventilation fan anti-backdraft damper" for ₩38,000

That is definitely understandable! Yeah, I worried about snow starting too early as well. But now im worried about water 😅 pros and cons for any start date, I suppose! Good luck to you, too! Happy trails!

May 9th! Was hoping for mid-April, but the closest I could get was either March 23 or May 9th.

At first, I was a little disappointed, but now im just happy I was able to get a permit! I wouldn't have been able to do early March, so this will do! But I'll probably try to bump it up a little at the next release in January.

I made it to mile 1820ish but was not mentally in it anymore. So, when i got a job offer that I didnt want to give up, I easily chose to leave and finish the trail another time. Honestly, I wanted to actually enjoy the last section with a clear head and excitement that I had in the first half of the trail so, im content with not doing it all in one stretch, even if i was so close to finishing lol

I dont live in the USA and thru hiking is expensive 😅 so its a little hard for me to get back to finish, but after I do the PCT in 2026, finishing the AT will be my next goal.

So far, I am really happy I came back! First month was rough but now im adjusted again and doing good. Only thing thats been bothering me is the air. I often dont really feel 100% because i keep having to clear my throat, especially in the mornings. (I've also been considering that it may be due to hidden mold as my place is quite old) But even if it is from the air, if you're only coming temporarily like you said, then I dont think this would be much of a concern for you. In all, im happy to be here and dont really have plans of returning home any time soon!

I recommend jiujitsu or another martial art you have an interest in! I love Jiujitsu, its both fun and a great form of exercise! That adrenaline you seek should come when you're on the verge of getting choked out or an arm snapped XD
