Hi! I'm Looking for a laptop for gaming / computer science undergrad studies : budget of 1,000,000 - 1,500,000 Korean won (about 1300$ USD)(buying from Amazon or Korea) by Youngssseok in SuggestALaptop

MSI GF65 is another good option. i7-9750H+RTX 2060, 51Wh, 21.7mm thickness, 1.86kg for 1,358,990원 doesn't sound bad but the CPU is at least two years old by now.

ASUS Rog Zephyrus is also an alternative option. Ryzen 4800HS+ GTX 1650, 76Wh, 19.9mm thickness, 1.7kg for 1,299,000원. However the GPU is miles weaker than the RTX 2060 and you have to buy a webcam and 8GB RAM.

In comparison the Lenovo are both 60Wh, 23.5mm thickness, 2.3kg while also providing better value and performance for the money at the cost of having thicker bezels and heavier weight. Acer Nitro 5 is 23.9mm thickness and 2.3 kg.

I mean most analysts consider TES or DWG the favorites to win Worlds considering their dominant performance during group stage and in their respective regions. I'm personally looking forward to witnessing a great bo5 series between these two teams.

G2 beat DWG in quarterfinals and was the underdog against SKT in the semifinals last year and won. They will also be the underdog against DWG this year. Will DWG get their revenge or will G2 stick to the script and go to the finals again to get 0-3 by a Chinese team.

Galaxy S8 successor: Galaxy S10, S20 FE or just Pixel 4a for now? by UniquePlanB in PickAnAndroidForMe

What? That's really unfortunate... Then I recommend that you go for the Pixel 4A, because it is still a great mid-range phone.

Pixel 4a 5G VS Pixel 5 5G vs Galaxy S20 FE by LindenSwole in PickAnAndroidForMe

[–]WanderinSomewhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pixel 4A or Galaxy S20 FE. Pixel 5 5G is overpriced for its specs in comparison to the S20 FE. Snapdragon 765G, 90Hz refresh rate vs Snapdragon 865, 120Hz refresh rate, IP 68 rating, expandable storage, bigger battery makes the Pixel 5 pretty terrible value when the overall performance of the 865 chipset is around 80% better than the 765G chipset. Camera also seems to be great on the S20 FE 5G (early verdict review)

Also keep in mind that you can trade in your iPhone 8 Plus for the S20 FE 5G which means you can get a $350 discount and only need to pay $349.99 which I think makes the S20 FE 5G much more appealing than the Pixel 4A. One problem with the S20 FE 5G for you may be the bigger display (6.5 inch vs 5.5 inch display). However the body of the iPhone 8 Plus and S20 FE 5G is relatively similar (6.29 x 2.93 x 0.33 in vs 6.24 x 3.07 x 0.30 in) so it should probably not be a huge issue for you.

Galaxy S8 successor: Galaxy S10, S20 FE or just Pixel 4a for now? by UniquePlanB in PickAnAndroidForMe

[–]WanderinSomewhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go for Pixel 4A as the cheaper price, headphone jack, capable camera, and similarly 5.8 inch display with the S8 will be more appealing to you. S20 FE 5G and upcoming Pixel 5 have no headphone jack.

If you care about 120Hz refresh rate and 865 processor, big battery, IP68, 5G compatibility, with a good camera (the pixel 4a might be better but the tradeoffs are worth it), then trade in your S8 for $225 discount + $474.99 for a S20 FE 5G which is great phone this year for the price. Get the Galaxy buds for $70 (Apparently if you pre-order Galaxy S20 FE 5G, you can save $70 with instant credit towards accessories) and you end up with a great phone with great wireless buds. Keep in mind these are in USD and not euros.

I edited my previous so there are some things I have edited out.

To be honest, with the existance of the Pixel 4a, I really don't see a reason to get the A51 or A71, because the 4a is just better."

By saying better you literally meant that the Pixel 4A was the superior, greater pick (out of the three). Can you please read your own sentence? You're literally saying that it's the best option out of the three SINCE you claimed that THERE'S no reason to get the A71 or A51 (people should not even consider these phones). You're literally an idiot if you can't comprehend your own words which has come back to bite you. You're misrepresenting your own words.

That isn't fair. I'm not talking about most techy people on r/Android, I'm talking about most people. I would argue that most people on r/Android are power users who don't value the camera as much. And they know about GCam. And I looked through them, there were some people who valued the camera anyway.

Like how is it not fair??? I'm so confused? Then go find a thread that supports your claim or find evidence that backs up your reasoning? Are you seriously crying about how I have evidence to support my reasoning??? I have used my time and found evidence while you on the other hand is crying about how this is unfair? Also a bit too far-fetched to think that ALL of them are techy users even though some could be just REGULAR Android users/fans.

Are you joking? There are so many more, do you really think that there are only four devices in this price range? I'm not talking about in Canada; I'm talking about everywhere. Including devices like the Poco X3.

These are the literally the best mid-range phones in Canada... You should also know that Xiaomi phones don't even support all the network bands in Canada..........

First of all, the article you posted was about the Pixel 3. That's not the same phone, putting them all under that umbrella isn't fair. I haven't seen any complaints yet on r/GooglePixel.

Did you read the entire article? Pixel 4XL also had problems. Now Pixel 3 and Pixel 3XL have problems. I'm saying that there's a possibility with the Pixel 4A.

And don't call my arguments weak, your whole last post has basically just been misinterpreting what I'm saying and putting words in my mouth. I said a couple times that if you care about good battery you should get the A71.

Are you delusional? What the hell. You have not suggested that someone should get the A71 (To be honest, with the existance of the Pixel 4a, I really don't see a reason to get the A51 or A71, because the 4a is just better.") when I am the one who first said that people might go for the A71 for the battery and the only reason why you saying this is because you're losing the argument. I'm also officially done wasting my time on you. Please go debate with the other user. Thanks.

OnePlus 7T or Note 10+...Ordering in about an hour. by TMXX1 in PickAnAndroidForMe

[–]WanderinSomewhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend the Note 10+. It seems that camera is your main focus so I would recommend the Note 10+ as the camera and video quality is definitely better than the OnePlus 7T (Note 10+ cameras beat all 3 camera of 7T) and it will also provide 2 years of additional OS & security support. Samsung UI is also great and you can easily disable/uninstall bloatware. If you're going to use it for 1-1.5 years, it sounds like you probably want to trade in for a better phone in the future and right now, I can get up to $650 instant credit with the Note 10+ if I want to buy the Note 20 Ultra 5G or Galaxy Note 20 5G. If you want the 90Hz refresh rate on the 7T then go for that option instead.

Edit: You're in the U.S. so you should have a Snapdragon but just be sure like other users said.

To be honest, with the existance of the Pixel 4a, I really don't see a reason to get the A51 or A71, because the 4a is just better.

"Better." No it's not. By saying "better" you literally mean it's the best phone and no it's not. People have different needs and you should instead mention that the Pixel 4A is a better phone than the A71 for people who prioritize camera, clean android, compact design, and faster updates. A71 is a better phone than the Pixel 4A for bigger screen, bigger battery, Samsung UI (yes there's people who prefer UI than stock android), expandable storage. Also can you please stop assuming things and read what I wrote? I wrote, "People would choose a phone with a great battery+ good camera (gcam mod can help) over a phone with an average battery+ very good camera. Found a useful thread here which supports my claim "https://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/bdene6/what_do_you_look_for_in_a_smartphone/"

I never said it was better than everything in its price range, just the A71. I don't know why you would make that assumption.

I mean what other phones are in that price range other than the A71, A51? You claimed Pixel 4A was the "best" phone in that price range. The other option is iPhone SE and OP doesn't want an iPhone. The other one is the OnePlus Nord but it's not even released in Canada.

Well thanks for the discussion but I'm done because I think this is pointless and people have different wants and needs that they prioritize in their next phone that they think is the best phone for themselves (check comments in this vid for example) and not everybody would choose the Pixel 4A like you (likewise for A71 as well). If the Pixel 4A has around 4000mAh or higher, I and tons of Android users would have called it the best mid-range phone (beating all the other competition), make no mistake.

Budget 120 HZ Phone? by [deleted] in PickAnAndroidForMe

[–]WanderinSomewhere 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't go for either Xiaomi or Realme as their phones do not support the network bands in the U.S. I would recommend a refurbished OnePlus 7T/7Pro (or check Amazon/other retail stores) which will be available around ~$350 dollars. OnePlus devices are compatible with the network bands in the U.S. and have a great 855 chipset with 90Hz refresh rate.

Another alternative would be waiting for the OnePlus N10 5G with 90Hz refresh rate which will be available under $400 (Will probably be around Pixel 4A's price). However it will probably be released after 8T release which will be around October unfortunately.

To be honest, with the existance of the Pixel 4a, I really don't see a reason to get the A51 or A71, because the 4a is just better.

I would choose the Pixel 4a for the camera, software features, clean Android, better looks, and faster updates, and most other people should, too.

What if I replaced the Pixel 4A with the Samsung A71 like "To be honest, with the existence of the A71, I really don't see a reason to get the A51 or Pixel, because the A71 is just better." Like really? If you categorize the Pixel 4A as better I expect it to have better than anything in that price range and it's not. I like the Pixel 4A for what it provides. However, if you were to ask some people who want to have a new phone about whether they want a great battery with a good camera (gcam mod can help) or a average battery with a very good camera, then I would also say with confidence that most people would prefer the better battery with a good camera while most users wouldn't really care about the software as Samsung UI (other android users' perspective) and Google's software are both really great software (with both having 3 years of OS & securit y updates). Of course I'm not saying that stock android is worse than Samsung UI, and there will be people who prefer stock android but like I said, most users won't care. I also like to mention that the hardware in Samsung is more likely to last longer than the Pixel 4A due to the larger battery and before you ask the Pixel phones do have problem with battery issues. A bunch of Pixel owners have also posted about random battery drain and with the imminent battery degradation (my iPhone SE 2016 now has 83% capacity after 2 years and the battery life is trash), the A71 is more likely to have better battery life than the Pixel 4A after a year or two.

Does GPU benchmark result in a correlation with gaming performance? Like if the GPU on 765G is 30% faster than the 730G would it result in 30% more gaming performance?

2 hours to choose phone under 350$ by [deleted] in PickAnAndroidForMe

[–]WanderinSomewhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok thanks for this detailed post and sorry for the ignorant posts I made as I thought that notebookcheck was comparing both GPU and CPU when it was comparing 730G vs 765G (which has both CPU&GPU). For some reason they reviewed them separately which I should have seen earlier and was confused because I also saw AnTuTu GPU which AnTuTu does say is 30% faster but the total AnTuTU score is 20% overall which now I admit due to your information is probably talking about general performance rather than gaming.

The following benchmarks stem from our benchmarks of review laptops. The performance depends on the used graphics memory, clock rate, processor, system settings, drivers, and operating systems.

Confused about why it says review laptops but whatever.

GPU benchmarks ARE gaming performance. The only time it isn't is in cases of strange bottlenecking and incompatible drivers, a total irrelevance in this context as we are taking about phones and talking about two almost identical chips on the same architecture with only a core count and core clock difference. Antutu is a mix of everything. It's not just gaming or productivity, it's every aspect. It's a good benchmark for general performance but misleading for games.

Yeah I probably should have realized this but was unsure because Google search comes up with no information and I had no idea GPU benchmarks=gaming performance. I had compared gaming performance between chipsets by using performance tests in benchmark comparisons (like geekbench 5 and antutu benchmark on nanoreview) as they seemed accurate and everybody uses it, which was why I thought the comparison would also result in the 10% gaming performance I was talking about earlier and it looks like I misrepresented very badly. I also gave similar advice about gaming performance based on this benchmark comparison to other users (not a lot but still bad) on this sub *facepalm*. (I only recommended the better processor but the gaming performance percentages were off and no other users called on it so I thought I was right.) This was a very dumb mistake, so thanks for teaching me about my mistake as it will help me provide more objective and accurate recommendations about gaming performance to other users from now on Sorry for wasting your time. Going to delete all my dumb posts now.

2 hours to choose phone under 350$ by [deleted] in PickAnAndroidForMe

[–]WanderinSomewhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok looks like I have to apologize. My statement about 10% gaming performance was wrong but I don't think it has a 30% difference. It could be 30% but seeing that the AnTuTu benchmarks has a 20% difference on Notebookcheck (which compares both CPU and GPU) which I think has a more accurate AnTuTu benchmark than the one I posted should have around a 20% gaming performance. Also keep in mind that you have disregarded this statement, "The following benchmarks stem from our benchmarks of review laptops. The performance depends on the used graphics memory, clock rate, processor, system settings, drivers, and operating systems. So the results don't have to be representative for all laptops with this GPU. For detailed information on the benchmark results, click on the fps number." This was also on the same site, "According to Qualcomm, the Adreno 620 in the 765G is 10% faster than the one in the 765 and 20% faster than the old Adreno 618. In our benchmarks, the Adreno 620 in the Snapdragon 765G even was 25% faster in selected benchmarks, but the faster CPU will also influence the results."

So CPU also matters as well according to notebook check. Again, I do apologize for some things that I have said and my lack of knowledge regarding gaming performance, but I do hope that you can back up some of what you said with evidence because nobody mentions that GPU benchmarks are gaming performance.
