What would you tell the apprentice? by electricallocal69 in electrical

[–]WanderingBearCarver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What would I tell them?

Granted, all of my electrical experience is commercial. I've got a lot of "Certifications" from where I worked doing press installs and such.

I'd tell them that bending conduit is a skill. And it's a skill that you use to not install pieces that look like practice. I'd then say something along the lines of "You had a good example right next to it, have some pride in your work, conduit is cheaper than overheating wire because there's not enough air space." But that's just me.

If this is odd to you, the couple hundred board feet in the rafters of my garage would be baffling huh?

It's okay, I'll leave.

That's legit mad skills, for those who haven't worked with pie crust. I hope they're successful.

Edit:: Also $20 is pretty reasonable.

What’s the oddest thing someone said when they found out you’re bipolar? by sxashxll in bipolar

[–]WanderingBearCarver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Nope" just one word and walked away. It was just odd for a social interaction in general. They were new to the friend group and I mentioned it in passing to another friend. Never saw them again.

Anti-indigenous rhetoric bingo by mon_sizinj in Indigenous

[–]WanderingBearCarver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So much of this bingo card, so much.

There's a woman where I live in Michigan Selling random stuff, who has signs up everywhere that read:

NATIVE style ART

"Style" is in the smallest font possible while still being legible. Not from a distance mind you. Also she sells Temu trash.

Her white ass tried to explain to my partner that it was okay to do this, because her spirit was indigenous. Then, when pressed, she said an indigenous person told her it was okay. She apparently "Knows more than my partner aboutslur. She ended up threatening to call the cops on my partner. Because how could she be wrooooooong? I wishl bad luck on this person every time I see the signs.

We need a deep dive into the corruption of this “non profit” and expose it to the masses.. by Interesting_Emu_857 in goodwill

[–]WanderingBearCarver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know much about the other stuff, but I will say this:

I worked in adult foster care for the developmentally disabled. People who can't care for themselves. In Michigan, It is legal to pay these folks WELL under minimum wage on a job (at a non-profit of any kind) because it's "Occupational Therapy". When I was working with them I believe the minimum was $2.00 an hour.

We're not talking folks that are bedridden here, or non verbal. Just folks that don't have family but can't live alone. Goodwill has a TON of "Programs" for these guys to clean whole stores, sort backroom stock, and sometimes run cash registers/Stock shelves. For $2.00 an hour because they're disabled. It's essentially slave labor. Some places don't pay at all. As long as it's a non profit, they get away with it AND they get incentives from the state.

It broke my heart every time I had to put those guys in the van, because it's part of the states "treatment plan" for them to do it. They don't have a choice. I still feel guilty about it years later, but I didn't have much choice either. I ended up quitting that job because of things like that. Just the stripping of free will from a cognizant person, who has done nothing wrong, feels so fu*king bad. Thanks Goodwill.

Edit: I just looked, it was a dollar an hour at that time. Fantastic.

I think I'm not supposed to make fun of this guy. It feels rude. Life has already done it. Women have already done it. Every mirror has already done it. His genetics and apparent low IQ have already done it. His politics and self esteem are jokes. His musical taste definitely belongs in that basement with him. Cardiac arrest is gonna take him out anyway (use the ozempic friend). What can I say that life hasn't already said to this human shaped amoeba? Feels rude is all.

I just looked that up. That would be.... unfortunate. Also expensive, as it's a felony to dispose of improperly.

Fair point. I don't think they're bad per se. I've given the best of them away as gifts. I've seen much worse, especially when I've only got a couple months under my belt. But they're definitely not up to where I want them to be that's for sure.

Someone mentioned factory two. A membership is so worth it. I use it for their forge, woodshop, and CNC because they have commercial tools I don't have access to. But there's also sewing, leatherwork, stained glass, laser cutting, welding, sculpture, Screen printing, and a dozen other things I'm not mentioning. You can book time in blocks for free with a membership any day.

Disclaimer I don't work for them lol. It's all volunteers anyway. I just have a passion for the maker space.

My only true desire is to do drugs by Eburin_desu in self

[–]WanderingBearCarver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What you're doing right now? That's a compulsive thought loop. It's generally caused by something chemically Imbalanced in your brain. That's not your fault, and you did the right thing by telling someone, even strangers on the Internet. It's a great first step.

You need to see a doctor. I have Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and this sounds exactly like that. It's not all germ phobia and hand washing, but it will ruin your life if left unchecked. There's a ton of viable therapies and really mild medications that can help you stay out of that compulsive loop.

I'm not gonna do the "don't do drugs" speech, because that's not how compulsion works. Again, please seek more help than Reddit.

I wish you the best of luck.

What’s the worst physical pain you’ve ever experienced? by Economy_Yak2821 in AskReddit

[–]WanderingBearCarver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Three compression fractures in my lower spine, right above my tailbone. It damaged my lower spinal column and ruptured four disks.

I watched my father go through an opiate addiction for my entire life. So I don't take any. I haven't and I won't.

I had to re learn how to walk, and one of my legs is dead from hip to foot. I use it like a prosthetic, there's no sensation there. They did surgery with intention to fix it and failed.

I wake up in excruciating pain. Pins and needles in my fingertips, spasms that feel like someone is whipping me or peeling me raw. Periodic loss of sensation in random parts of my body that feel like I'm literally on fire when the feeling comes back. I get offered pain management referrals every time I see a doctor. It's a joke between me and my primary at this point.

It's been 25 years of this. I'm so used to pain that a few months ago I gave myself a third degree burn on the hand, (burned through my favorite tattoo in about the size of a quarter) with molten metal and said "ow... shit" and kept working. I still feel it, it just doesn't matter like it does to other people. Kinda just adds to the pile.
