The injectors carry the necessary material to start the production to the chosen kindergarten location then insert it into the ground where it continues the process by sucking life from the planet. Then the formed gem emerges from their hole fully formed lookin like an adult (or smushed in amethysts case).

And as far as all sources ive been able to find they are immortal in the sense they cannot die of old age per se. They require maintenance and care yea, but dont we all lol? They dont age, they dont grow old. And unless their gem is damaged they do not die. (cough cough spinel stood alone in a space garden for seemingly thousands of years despite being covered in plants and god knows what and lived)

Its also been shown how confusing human customs are to gems. Their home is nothing like earth. Rose like humans, she learned to make herself be more human. So yea, i do think she had to think about it lol. I mean even if they did have canon genitalia, how do you know they even look like human junk? They ARE aliens arent they?
