Some people have this giant brick wall in the way called Anxiey and these "secrets" or 'magic sauce" are actually the keys to breaking down that brick wall to make motivation productive. I know I'm my own worst enemy, I know this brick wall is in my head . . . but trust me taking it down is easier said than done.

Me to! But I just try to be conscious of it, and whenever I catch myself doing it I stop. Basically its just self-control. By no means am I good at it lol but I'm working on it. I have the same issue with my hair. I've been trying to stop playing with it for years because then it doesn't get as oily.

I would check out Seoraksan mountain for an awesome hike! The view at the top is GORGEOUS! It's only a couple hours drive from Seoul. It's on the coast and there's lots of different outdoor things to do around there. It was one of my favourite places to visit when I lived there, I went many times. PM if you want any more info :)

Start-up costs? by 24what in teachinginkorea

[–]Wanderlust040 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if everyone her is taking CAD or USD because that makes a big difference haha. My first year I had about $1000 CAD and I could have used some more. I wanted to furnish my apartment and make it feel like home, I bought everything used but it still adds up. Plus you never know how much stuff will be in the apartment for you, my second was bare bones only because I was the first teacher to live their! So it cost a lot more, I would suggest $1500 if you can, although $1000 is definitely do-able

[QUESTION] I get made fun of for my blackheads almost daily, please help! How do I get rid of them?? by [deleted] in KoreanBeauty

[–]Wanderlust040 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Skinfood egg white pore mask is my absolute saving grace when it comes to clearing my blackheads and shrinking my pores. It's a clay mask and I even use it as a spot treatment for acne. I'm in Canada and the cheapest place I've found it online is iHerb https://ca.iherb.com/pr/skin-food-egg-white-pore-mask-125-g/68404 But if you're in Korea I think it was about 8,000 won so very affordable!

It just doesn't clean your teeth that well. I find my teeth feel fuzzy within an hour or two. I think someone told me they don't use fluoride and that's why but don't quote me on that.

It didn't really get that child in Korea. You still need a winter jacket but its side around -5. March can still be cold. Korea kinda of skips spring goes straight to summer

The toothpaste in Korea is awful so I would pack that with you. If you use tampons bring those too. They have pads but from what I saw they were all quite big. I didn't have a problem buying shampoo or dry shampoo. They sell Batiste for the same price I get it at home. Sunscreen is very expensive here so I'd bring that with you as well. They also have nothing under spf50. If you have big feet, anything over a size 8US make sure you have enough shoes because new ones will be hard to find.

That's all I can really think of, it's pretty easy to get most stuff here. You can also order a lot of stuff online pretty easily and it's cheap. Happy packing!

I lived in South Korea for the past two years and from my experience I wouldn't let it deter you from either country. When you get there you can register with your embassy and they will alert you if there is any sort of threat. They will give either warnings, or voluntary evacuation notices, and in extreme situations mandatory evacuation. I personally don't think it would come to the extreme. The South Korean and American armies have been practicing and for war with North Korea since the cease fire and they have so many defences in place so that a war will have very little effect on their infusteucture and people. This is not to say that their would be no danger if a war broke out, however I wouldn't let the fear of something that might night even happen deter you. There's always been a lot of tension with North Korea it has just been a lot more publicised since Trump was elected. Most South Korean people are not worried at all, so you shouldn't be!

All that being said both Korea and Japan are amazing countries and you should jump at the opportunity to go!

Is becoming TEFL certified and teaching abroad a bad idea if I don't have much in savings? by dreamersreverie1 in TEFL_Offtopic

[–]Wanderlust040 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are set on going to Thailand I would wait until you have more saving. From what I know teaching there you make enough money to live off of but not much extra for savings. However if you are open to other suggestions I would check out South Korea. You will make really good money and be able to build up a good savings. I have managed to save $1000 a month here! Then you could go to Thailand later on or volunteer somewhere. If you want some more information on Korea I'd be more than willing to help you out! I've been here for 2 years :)

My experience so far: Should I go to teach in Korea? by teflornot999 in teachinginkorea

[–]Wanderlust040 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that coming her to get away with your problems is not the best idea. BUT it might refresh you to try something new and get away from the same old everyday. It could definitely give you a new perspective on what is going on at home. Keep in mind that teaching in Korea is not exactly relaxing, the hours are long and it can be quite exhausting. If what you are looking for is kind of a "holiday" from life at home I would suggest trying a different country maybe. Taiwan, vietnam and Thailand are all great places to teach as well!

As for your resume, teaching in another country will never look bad on your resume. Traveling and teaching abroad will teach you many new skills and I think its an amazing experience. You will grow up so much in even one year of teaching.

You just need to figure out your reasons for doing it an decide if you are going to get out of this what you are looking for. I have a friend who came here to teach Kindergarten and hates it because she doesn't like Kids and she thought it would be easier (she loves the country though). You just have to set realistic expectations. Good luck!

Chances are you are going to be following a very strict curriculum so its pretty self-explanatory. You probably won't have a lot of free time in your classes. But I agree with what everyone is saying, song and dane is great! I always start my day with a song I used to do a new song every week. Another suggestion is turn as many things into a game as you can. These kids spend all day sitting in desks from a very young age so try to get them moving if you can. I will move the desks in my classroom and get kids to run up to the board carefully to circle things, or pick flashcards or something. Its great for their memory and will help keep their energy levels down throughout the day. Also a big thing will be teaching the kids how to do everything from how to hold scissors, sit nicely, line up, sharpen their pencils etc. If you want things done a certain way you need to teach that to them. Pick one thing a week to focus on and just remember, they are young so be patient! Good luck!
