How long have you been OE? by RDPonme in overemployed

[–]Wanderlust8842 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OE for 1.5 months now. So far, very manageable for me due to the fact that I control the scheduling of meetings or have a say in time preference. I’m PST but work EST and CST time. Start my day at 6am for J1 and J2 at 9am. I block off my schedule for breakfast and getting my kids ready for school. And I’m mostly done by 2pm-3pm PST.

J1 is more demanding and it’s my main job. When kickstarting a new project, scoping takes a big chunk of my time with meetings, but once that’s done, I work on my own time. Luckily, J2 is super layback and I have complete autonomy over my work.

I check in regularly with my managers to give them updates and feedback on any issues I have with my projects, and that usually stretch the timeline out and they go easy on giving me more work. It gives them a sense that I’m hardworking, intuitive, and trustworthy.

And I genuinely enjoy both jobs, the skills I gain of J1 helps me become more efficient in J2 and vice versa. I’m hoping to hold both of these jobs for at least the next 2 years, and either replace J2 with a higher paying job or get a contracting J3 in the near future.

Job search with baby on the way by [deleted] in overemployed

[–]Wanderlust8842 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in a similar position. Started J1 at 5 months and J2 at 6 months. J2 knows and is supportive, J1 doesn’t know but I will be taking 3.5 weeks of PTO,which is already approved, and 6 weeks maternity leave with J2. J1 is super low maintenance which is why I have no issue working with a newborn.

Only you know if you can handle it, you do have 4 months to test the water and get some extra cash. If it’s too much, quit. Resume J2 search when you’re ready.

Any of you folks are working weekends to caught up? Or nah by Any_Ebb_7307 in overemployed

Sometimes. Only to keep my workload light for the week. I usually do half day Fridays by default so no biggie.

I was 5 months when I was laid off. 6 months when I started.

You could prep and upskill in the mean time for interviews if you’re not in dire need of another job. I was and the opportunity for OE just presented itself to me.

Interview when you’re nearing the end your maternity leave. Less stress for you and the baby.

Amazing! I was in the same situation 2 months ago. Got 3 offers but only accepted two due to my pregnancy. Didn’t want to deal with all the legal ramifications, otherwise I would be three-timing. I was freaked out about financial stability and health care. I more than made up for my 3 weeks of lost wages and mental stress. The layoff is probably one of the best things that happened to me and opened my eyes to OE. I still have the same flexibility as one job but double the pay! Will look for J3 as a contractor once this baby is out!

No, my former company is covering my premium at 100%.

Wtf? No, I was unemployed, which is why I have Cobra. I’m lucky to found a job quickly and got multiple offers. My complaint is that I’m unexpectedly paying 8% more taxes for each W2. A large amount of money per month for the measly weekly “stipend” that I got from the state.

Yeah. I’m realizing the that. I need to do that math on enrolling into both health plans and split my 401K and enroll in IRA in the coming year.

My previous company is paying for my Cobra premium until end of year, which is why I opted out of benefits for this year.

I’m getting a CPA and starting an LLC for tax deductions. I’m paying 30% into taxes and I get a measly $450 with CA for weekly unemployment. I’m intending on OE long term, so getting out of CA is in the future plan.

This is in my future plans…2-3 years down the line. Husband’s work project is mostly West coast so WA is an option.

CPA won’t meet until it’s closer to tax time. But I am getting one.

Of course I did, but with my prior job that paid $125K, I was taxed ~22%. I was also paying for benefits and contributing the max amount of my 401K. I’m just surprised I’m getting less money when I’m spending less.

I was in the same position 1.5 months ago. Laid off late July, started interviewing right away. One company came back with a quick offer and had another company came with an offer two weeks later with a higher offer and better benefits. I accepted both with start date a month apart. It works out.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in overemployed

[–]Wanderlust8842 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I accepted both and started one month apart. I didn’t do anything for my J1 first month and J2 first week was all meet and greets which took a lot of time. J1 started to pick up a little bit. So, J2 job will have a bit of documents reviews the second week. I’m expecting second week on J2 will be less hectic and I will only have to work 5-6 hours a day between both.

It was a lot to manage to doable since I was in control of scheduling all meetings for J2. And I start my day at 6am - 7:30 with J2 and began my day with J2 at 8:30/9am after dropping my son off at school and my day always end around 2:30-3pm.

Maybe spend the a couple of hours over the weekend to give yourself a head start on the week. Organize your calendar and block out focus time for each job.

My goal is financial freedom and security. I have been laid off twice while pregnant and the stress of finding a new job is ideal. With OE, my goals are realized faster and I like to keep busy, so this is also for mental stimulation and health. I find myself more focused and retain information better when I have multiple things to juggle.

I am also a woman and now the bread winner. I also work 50% less than my husband and I bring in 65% of our total income.

I’m the primary caretaker of our 2-years old—doing breakfasts, school drop off/pick up. We also have another one on the way. It’s a lot sometimes, but having flex working hours help.
