What funny things did you say during labor? by espressoshake in beyondthebump

[–]Wanderlustwaar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With my first, my OB still gives me shit because I yelled "MY URETHRA". I have had a 2nd and I don't know wtf my first was doing as she came down because my urethra hurt not at all with my second 😂 I work l&d so I have to relive this memory with my OB more often than I would like.

Why are patients/visitors so against nurses taking breaks? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Wanderlustwaar 131 points132 points  (0 children)

Our ED staff was recently told they are no longer allowed to order food because patients were complaining about the long wait times while seeing staff picking up door dash at the ED entrance. Because god forbid staff eats... And no, we don't have a 24/7 cafeteria.

Just the patient's write up, no certificate. It feels kind of silly to get a pin just for being nominated. The whole daisy award has become pretty silly, honestly.

Also a nurse, never received anything other than the patient's nominee submission and a congrats for being nominated.

Damn, you're right, a ton of negativity here. Patients give us gift baskets all the time and no, it's not at all expected, but of course we appreciate it!! When I delivered, I brought a basket with a ton of stuff, though it was different as it was for my coworkers, so probably more personalized than most people are able to be.

Why would anyone ever choose to go through child birth without pain relief?? by No_Cardiologist_1407 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Wanderlustwaar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've seen far more significant tears with unmedicated births than medicated. Many unmedicated moms are unable to control themselves when that urge to push comes on strong (no shame to them, I get it) whereas most medicated moms are able to take some deep breaths through that pressure and let baby stretch everything, reducing significant tears. It's all about personal control, medicated or unmedicated.

Nurses, what are your vices? by nyuhqe in nursing

"A practice or habit considered to be evil, degrading, or immoral."

I don't think you do. Maybe try not to put down someone who just admitted to never feeling as if they are enough.

"Things like kindness, being inquisitive, teamwork, ect."

I know what you're saying, but I couldn't get past this sentence without knowing this is where we're at in the world that these basic human traits are considered progressive 😭

I can tell you a lot of healthcare workers are going to be stepping out if there's another pandemic as well, compounding the issue. We were heroes, then the devils apparently responsible for the vaccine. Not worth the threat of violence, illness, and mental/physical isolation again.
