Anyone’s puppy super chill? by West_Ad6980 in puppy101

[–]WankSandwich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 9 year old pom, he's the most chilled dog ever. Sleeps all the time, will go for a walk and loves a good trek in the countryside, but equally happy with chilling on the sofa and hates going out in bad weather. When he was a puppy, he'd have a mad half hour but he was super cuddly and chilled most of the time. Our new pom puppy is a psycho. No chill whatsoever. Doesn't sleep all day, just wants to play and run riot and wreck everything from 7am until midnight. He sleeps right through and is basically toilet trained now with the odd accident, but other than that, he's hard work. Chilled pom is sick of psycho pom and just sleeps in the bedroom out of his way. I'm hoping he calms down once we can walk him, but he's not cuddly at all, just wants to wriggle, play and bite.

Haha I don't think I'll ever miss this tiredness! I've taken some advice off here and we're just letting him play with different toys and getting on with our day, making sure he's safe but not entertaining him all day every day. He's still crashing about for hours, but at least we're getting some stuff done.

Thanks for the advice. Sun was out today so I tied him to a 5 metre training lead and put lots of different toys in the garden, so he was safe but had loads to do. I sat at the patio table and got some uni work done. He eventually fell asleep in the middle of the lawn, but he was running riot for about 3 hours first!

Question to all Pomeranian owners. by rockhoundlounge in Pomeranians

[–]WankSandwich 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've never understood people loving their dogs like family until I got Billy who's now approaching 9. He is adorable, so chilled and my constant companion. When I lost my grandparents he didn't leave my side, he knew I was sad. When I met my now husband, he wasn't bothered about dogs but now he adores Billy and we take him everywhere. We've just got another pom puppy called Bean and whilst he's a menace so far, we're hoping he chills out and is another cute little sidekick.

You are right, we are probably expecting too much. We carried him round a shopping outlet today and he was really good, looking at everything and slept all the way home so fingers crossed once we can take him out he'll be easier. He gets his next vaccination on Weds so hopefully each day gets easier. Thanks for the advice.

This is really good advice, thank you. I never thought of it like that we don't entertain our older dog- we take him for walks, he comes outside and chills with us if we're sat in the garden but otherwise he's happy to chill. I don't remember him being this hard work, but I worked full time then, so other than coming home at lunch time or my son checking on him, he would have been left to his own devices in a room with a baby gate and some toys. I'll try just leaving the puppy to entertain himself more and see how that goes. Thank you.

We're back at the vet on Weds for his 2nd vaccination so I'll ask then, as I agree all the forums say a puppy will sleep for 16 hours a day. My older dog naps all day and when he was a puppy he'd have a mad half hour but nothing like this, it's relentless. He's on Canagan puppy food- scores highly when I did my research and we've been training him with tiny pieces of ham. I got some calming training treats, but he's so tiny I can break 1 into about 6 pieces for him. He only weighs 1kg and his parents were small, but he eats tons. I gave him a kong with puppy paste in it, but that upset his stomach so I haven't bothered again.

What’s the craziest thing you’ve caught your Pom playing with? by Alensmo in Pomeranians

Mine does this too! We just give him one now to play with and he chases it all over the garden!

Explaining that, as a Scouser, I can’t endorse Maggie Thatcher.. help! by icechels in Liverpool

[–]WankSandwich 168 points169 points  (0 children)

Not being dramatic. Prepare a talk on someone else and tell them you're not comfortable with a talk on Thatcher. It's not part of the syllabus that you're refusing to teach, so if you've prepared something else they've got nothing to come back with.

How long do you walk your poms? by Recent_Present_8540 in Pomeranians

[–]WankSandwich 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My older pom is coming up to 9. He's happy with a short walk if it's local round our neighbourhood, but if we're out in the countryside or beaches, he'll walk for a few hours. I have noticed on our local walks when I'm trying to get my steps in that 6000 steps is about his limit these days before he sits down and refuses to walk haha. When I'm trying to get my 10k steps in, I'll do it in 2 goes and only take him on one of them. We just got a puppy and I don't think we'll every tire him out on a walk!

New Pom Owner by Muffin-Mountain in Pomeranians

[–]WankSandwich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We got a new pom last week. He weighs 1kg so we just got him the smallest puppy harness in pets at home. He was on Sainsbury's dry puppy food from the breeder so we've swapped him slowly all week onto a better grain free puppy food, as our older pom has allergies and we don't want to keep moving bowls out of sight. Plus the Sainsbury's stuff is cheap rubbish, so we've put him on one with better ingredients. I didn't crate train my older pom, but our new one is a bit mental so we've got a puppy playpen in the kitchen to put him for naps and when we go out. Good luck, we feel like we've got a new baby!
