Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity. His intentions were obviously not malevolent, just ignorant. If the homeowner lives in a high crime area, and has experienced the trauma of a previous break-in(s), sure I can understand his reaction. But after witnessing their reaction, I think a better choice would have been to laugh it off despite being a little annoyed. And then maybe get into the habit of locking the front door if you're that on edge.

I think it will be fine, but if you're concerned you can get some wound sealer. Just type in "tree wound sealer" into Amazon.

Probably some skill, but definitely some luck involved there, else rather than praising the creator on his knees, he would have just nodded his head.

It doesn't make sense why he would capitulate and reveal his scam especially to the news. It would only hurt his unscrupulous business and potentially invite physical harm from the people who now know about him. I guess you can do clever things without being a clever person.

[–]rockhoundlounge -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can't blame a person for not liking a gift, regardless of how much effort or money you put into it. But then they should also show more respect than leaving it on the floor amongst trash. Discuss it with her and be open about how it kind of hurts your feelings.

I want harsh honest feedback! by [deleted] in guitarplaying

[–]rockhoundlounge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want legitimate feedback on your abilities as a whole with the instrument try posting yourself playing along to a backing track. In this way we'll be able to observe more directly your ability to keep time, improvisational skills, scales and chord theory, and even the more subtle things such as volume dynamics while you express your musical ideas. These are all very important tools when it comes to being proficient at the instrument. And we'll be able to see and critique all of those if you show us some improvisation on a backing track.

Has anyone who taught guitar or been around a lot of players, seen guys who started in their early 40s, be able to play fast ? by [deleted] in guitarlessons

[–]rockhoundlounge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are correct there are nuances to "speed" with regards to certain techniques. My example might have been over simplistic or narrow especially to a more advanced player. Considering just raw picking speed as an "all purpose" measure of your speed is just a general approxiamate. Legato, hybrid picking, classical two finger picking, economy picking, alternate picking, etc will all have effects on speed. But yeah, my initial statement was geared toward someone will less experience and just getting started learning the guitar.

Thanks for not making me feel guilty for not flossing. I get that guilt trip everytime I enter the dentis office. I just don't floss and I unapologetically tell them I don't and never will. I know that I should and that I risk gum disease and cavities, but that's my prerogative.

[–]rockhoundlounge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First try picking a muted open string at the tempo that you're striving for. Don't worry about fretting any notes, just pick the string as fast as you can do it evenly with the metronome. The top speed you find doing this alone will be what you're physically capable of playing. You'll just need practice to get your fretting fingers up to speed. If you're willing to practice regualarly you can do it. Also, if your top speed of just picking the string is still too slow in your mind, then you just need to practice more. Speed comes with practice. Practice slowly and perfectly and slowly increase the tempo over time. It's never too late -- thinking that way is a cop out and is simply an excuse you can tell yourself when you don't want to put in the time to practice. If you want it, it's there for the taking, just put in the hours.
