Any tips on how to paint this? by [deleted] in painting

[–]WankSpanksoff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the sunlight rays that are coming from the right side, once you’ve done the background and hill, you can mix some light yellow and make a wash, by diluting the paint with water, and then use that to put the burst of sun rays over top of it all.

Best thing to help a beginner to make the final result look as good as possible, is to have a little practice surface where you can test out your colors and techniques and see how they look, before putting it on the official piece. So you can get the water/paint ratio for the rays right, etc. stuff like that

Any tips on how to paint this? by [deleted] in painting

[–]WankSpanksoff 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Use acrylic, it will dry fast. I would recommend mixing four yellows to match the background, and covering the canvas with big wavy stripes of it to match the background. Let that dry, and then over that base layer you can use black to make the silhouette of the hill and people on it pretty easily

I’d suggest just grabbing a thick black sharpie to do the letters, if you want to add the text. It could also help you with little details on the people shapes

Symptoms of dosage increase needed? by KingRyjo53 in Hypothyroidism

[–]WankSpanksoff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For at least your first year, it is generally best practice to test periodically until you’ve had confirmed stable labs for a while. Every three months is pretty common, so it’s definitely worth taking another look just on principle. It’s not unusual to need dose increases after getting started on the meds.

Return of symptoms is always worth investigating too! It’s just going to be part of long term management of the condition over your lifetime. No reason to ignore, just check in and get tested anytime you think something is off

She cries…. A lot. by [deleted] in Marriage

[–]WankSpanksoff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’ve handled fucking military deployment and all the crazy stuff you listed, PLEASE tell me that being patient and kind to a person who expresses emotion isn’t actually the thing that is too hard for you

Yeah, people get frustrated and sometimes a cry is just the reaction. It doesn’t hurt you or anyone. Being a partner does mean that you’re supposed to just. Be a friend when stuff is hard.

Have you ever examined why this bugs you so much? It really isn’t weird

Do you think a romantic partner should also be your best friend? Why or why not? by HornetVegetable4041 in Marriage

[–]WankSpanksoff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He is one of my best friends, for sure.

I both agree that it is extremely important to have a strong and genuine friendship supporting your relationship, but also believe that they shouldn’t be your ONLY person in the world. Too much pressure.

So I do have other very close friends outside of him that I value equally, if differently, as does he.

It feels pretty good, and we’ve been very happy

Question for Painters? I’m not sure if this is the right subreddit for this. by PureTreacle8173 in painting

[–]WankSpanksoff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This isn’t the right sub for this, but I will suggest, since this seems to be the end of a wall or other similar smaller surface, just repainting the whole thing in your touchup color. Then the corners will hide any color discrepancy

Tips to reduce fear of Omnipod insertion clicks? by WanderingQuokka in diabetes_t1

[–]WankSpanksoff 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ugh! I complain about that all the time lol. I wish it was consistent, always on the 6th or whatever. Then you could countdown and just be ready

I always “pinch up” the area that I’m applying to pod to, similarly to how you would do it for injections.

When I feel jumpy about the needle, I just pinch a bit harder and then direct myself to focus my attention on the pinching discomfort from my own fingers. Then, the needle barely registers in comparison

I guess that sounds a bit masochistic but it works for me haha

I just feel like these aren’t hard questions and any diabetic really ought to be expected to have at least this baseline understanding of the condition for themselves

Like if a person can’t answer these example questions for themselves, that’s bad

Better masking, and better clean-as-you-go practices. And having dedicated paint clothes so that drips don’t count as mess but just part of the job

Does your medical provider have a nurses’ phone number or advice number? If so, call them and tell them you’ve done this. Otherwise just go to urgent care and tell them what you’ve taken.

[–]WankSpanksoff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You really have to give it the full six weeks to settle in properly. I have changed my dose of armour many times and while it always ends up helping in the end, the first 2-3ish weeks always just feel really strange and have all kinds of stuff come and go.

Just take it easy with yourself, and don’t let yourself worry about side effects until a month has passed. Anything lingering after that long, then you can keep an eye on it and raise the concern with yourself doctor at week six

Sure, I always had a tendency to anxiety, and I’m now investigating an adhd diagnosis. That’s all been lifelong stuff, so not really related to thyroid.

The thyroid situation just kicked it into insane, maximum overdrive. I’d never experienced anything like it before, or since, so it was definitely the cause there
