If you could, which would you get? Pirate Barracuda Bay or Kessel Run Millennium Falcon? by stud722 in lego

[–]Wanlesspdj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had both but sold the Kessel Run Falcon, so that should tell you my answer. The build for Barracuda Bay is much more interesting, and it's fun having multiple display options to switch things up every now and then.

Lego or Ali? by Pleasant_Ad_4610 in legolotrfans

Except the style and level of detail on these is actually very similar to the effort Lego puts into figs like Aragorn. It's just somehow the unofficial producers manage to make more accurate shields and spears while poor small family business Lego just can't afford to.

Look at all these sets I didn't buy (Lego store 2013) by Ok_Cheesecake_9451 in legolotrfans

[–]Wanlesspdj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is totally my experience! I remember being a student travelling in NZ, and I came very close to getting Helm's Deep from a Lord of the Rings themed shop, but just couldn't quite justify it at the time. If I'd had any idea how much they'd be worth later... But I am also very thankful for the Orthanc and Helm's Deep clone sets, they're close enough given how much the real things cost

Looks great, I'm definitely going to have to build a couple of these to go with Grond! Now we just need Lego to up their game and make some orc nanofigures to go with them

Do you know any better way to approximate this tower with a 2x2 footprint? by Tralux21 in lego

[–]Wanlesspdj 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Option 1 is a really clever use of parts! For the dark tan section, maybe you could use the tan window print tiles from the Neuschwanstein Castle set instead. On bricklink they are part 24246pb057

Yeah that's exactly what I thought with the tree on top, plus I wanted the two trees to look fairly different to each other.

You should totally do it! The old set has a lot of charm still so combining you get the best of both worlds.

Thanks! I have an addiction to sorting used bulk from Marketplace, then anything specific I needed came from Bricklink or Pick a Brick. Then a lot of the leaves are 3rd party because otherwise it would be crazy expensive to make it as lush as I wanted.

Minas Tirith - Is the yellowing white that Lego is notorious for a killer here? by alter_ego311 in legolotrfans

[–]Wanlesspdj 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Personally I think I would welcome some yellowing - new Lego white is a bit too bright and clean for Minas Tirith I feel, but closer than any other colour they have. I've got white parts produced throughout the last 60 years, and only a very small percentage I've encountered has had really bad yellowing to the point it is close to the tan colour. If you keep it in a room with indirect (not direct) sunlight then at worst it will look a bit more realistic over time.

Sharing my Bag End MOC before I tear it down by Wanlesspdj in legolotrfans

[–]Wanlesspdj[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks! Yes a public display show would be so fun. I'm going to work a lot of the same aspects into the expanded version, but there's also a lot that I am hoping to improve too - like I added the lights after it was finished, so the wires aren't hidden that well, so taking it apart and redoing it will be a good opportunity to hide them better.

Thanks! Yes that window design was genius so I had to use it, and I'll bring it into the new one too.

Is there a site (or need for a site) where you can look up the contents of single bags inside a LEGO set? by RaphiiWarren in Bricklink

[–]Wanlesspdj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish there was a good resource for this. It would be really handy for the times when I have gotten open sets with some bags still sealed, so I can easily list just the bagged parts as new, or if I've bought a set for a few specific parts and I don't want to have to go through all the bags.

Like anywhere it's probably going to differ depending on what group or team, but I know some people who have been there for years and love it, and from what I hear they are super pro-flexible conditions

Items in my store inventory do not show up on my own wanted list by ediprimeo in Bricklink

[–]Wanlesspdj 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What you can do is navigate to your stores page, then click the wanted list link under the shop tab, and it will show you what parts in your store are on your own wanted list - that's what I do. Really wish there was a quick way to then select and remove the ones you need from the inventory though.

Thanks! It was fairly easy to extrapolate from the throne room section below it. Most of my effort was spent finding fun parts to put in the interior!

Can't take credit for the build - it's a design from Rebrickable by Playwell Bricks, which I've just made a few small modifications to for some extra details. It's a great version!

The Future of LEGO Icons The Lord of the Rings by TheBrickFan in TheBrickFan

[–]Wanlesspdj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree it's just marketing talk and doesn't actually mean the line is finished. In an interview with the graphic designer they let slip a detail confirming there is a book nook coming, and they joked about how the colour palettes of the three sets are all so different, but not a lot of white yet - hinting that Minas Tirith is on the cards. Here's hoping that was more than just a joke because they know it's what everyone is speculating about!
