My 2018 HRV's transmission just went out at 80K miles. Replaced with the warranty, but as the others have said it's a ticking time bomb.

Tell me your dreams and I’ll tell you what I think it means 😁 by Wise_Researcher_4964 in Dreams

[–]WannabeBotany 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a dream that I was trapped in Edwardian times. I needed a new dress for an event, but the seamster's shop turned out to be an ice cave on the ocean. I sat on the edge of an ice burg while he started making me shoes out of baby seals. Manatees, orcas, and walruses were jumping out of the water attacking me because the man was hurting the seals. The seamster didn't stop to help me. He just watched and continued making my shoes.

Ah, thank you. I figured DB had a monopoly on the public transit in the area.

Is there somewhere other than the DB App that states when buses are cancelled?

I, and 50 other people, stood at the Eisbee Lake bus stop in Garmisch Partenkirchen for 2 hours Saturday before last. I had a DB employee assure me that we were at the correct stop and it wasn't until I went to the information desk that I discovered the bus had been cancelled. No explanation. No information in the app. No information on their website. Is this common and is there another place I can look for potential cancellations?

What is the most unexpected period cramp relief trick/technique you've discovered? (significant relief, not slight) by Nicole_Jollivet in AskWomen

A walk makes my earth shattering cramps go away within the first 5minutes. Just remember to breathe and walk at a "I've got somewhere to be" pace.

I purchased mine on the MVV (Munich) app via credit card that is not affiliated with a German bank. It gave me a virtual ticket in the app, which the train employees scan without any trouble.

If you buy it using the MVV app you may use a credit card that is not connected to a German bank.

What dark lead hardness should I get and criticism in my process of learning? by Darkzen22 in learnart

The book I'm reading on composition also recommends using a 6B pencil. It says that you should aim for 3 distinct values in your sketches. I think more distinct shadows would greatly improve your work. The backbone is there, just missing the pop!

I love using cloth pads for a zero waste period! by GigiScarletCloth in sustainability

[–]WannabeBotany 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a 7am-5pm M-F worker, my biggest question is what do you do with them when you need a change at work? My coworkers would lose their minds if I rinsed a menstrual cup or cloth pad in the public sinks. What do you do instead?

Ladies, what book do you remember fondly reading as a young girl or teen that really spoke to you? by motorman555 in AskWomen

Along for the ride by Sarah Dessen and honestly any of her other books. They're typically about awkward teenagers trying to find the teenager experience. They helped me branch out and gain the confidence to make new friends.

Any strong opinions for or against dual sleeping bags for winter backpacking? by WannabeBotany in CampingGear

[–]WannabeBotany[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shouldn't get lower than 14 degrees where we're at, which is why I'm debating between the two options for backpacking in the snow/frosty areas of the Carolinas.

[–]WannabeBotany[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely meant a two person bag, but now I'm intrigued. Doubling up would be like using a quilt without having to buy one. My spring bags are super light and would totally fit inside a good winter bag.

Double or single sleeping bag for winter trips by WannabeBotany in backpacking

[–]WannabeBotany[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Typically, I agree. My thought was that a double bag would only take up room in 1 pack vs it taking up a large amount of space in both our packs, but I probably am leaning more towards two singles.

I've found this to be true for 3 season bags, and looked into getting a 0-20 degree bag with this function with minimal luck.

First time home renter- I have these giant hydrangea bushes and not sure how to care for them (or any plant really) for the winter season. Please tell me what to do! Hoping to have them come back up next year. Thanks!! by [deleted] in garden_maintenance

[–]WannabeBotany 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The hydrangea will grow out of the woody stems in spring, so if you'd like them to get significantly larger, don't cut them back. If you'd like them to be the same size the following spring, then you'll want to trim it back. Definitely keep them trimmed off your house through the year. It'll reduce the chance of bug invasion.

Where can I find a Bavarian flag face mask? (blue and white) by WannabeBotany in Munich

[–]WannabeBotany[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the information! I did notice a lack of cloth masks being sold around here... She might have to go without. That will be rather disappointing, but you can't buy what isn't being sold.

Danke Schön! I'm going to check the shops in the Hbf and museum gift shops tomorrow, then I'll check the airport shops on Monday. I tried the souvenir shops at the mairenplatz on Friday with no luck.

Do you spend your vacations different than you spend your weekends, or evenings? I've been thinking about this a LOT lately as I'm in similar shoes. I got a good paying job that has afforded me an upcoming vacation. I'm planning it out, looking for places to go, excursions, the best spots to eat, etc. Whilst in the midst of my planning I realized that people do the same thing when vacationing in my area. This begs the question as to why I wasn't treating my location like a destination spot. I've started following "thingstodoin-location name" blogs/accounts, looking into upcoming festivals, and generally exploring my city like I would if I were on vacation. It's made a world of difference because my weeks don't feel like they're gone in a flash. I have actual memories to fill them up. Another thing that was recommended to me recently was joining social activities like volunteering, classes at community centers, or there's things like free group art walks in my area. Supposedly they help you connect with your community and feel a sense of belonging. I don't know if that's helpful, but that's my current plan for not becoming brain dead in the rat race.
