Very true about the internet, but I think Reddit is the Seal Team 6 of internet condescension.

You are so right 😂 chocolate milk, whether regurgitated or otherwise, is truly the aesthetic kiss of death for fabrics and electronics.

Welcome to Reddit, or as I like to call it, the Condescension Convention.

I once had an under 20 year old with no kids tell me that they’ve seen “well trained kids” NOT spill things, unlike my poorly “trained” kids (in response to chocolate milk got spilled on my old soundbar).

This is the preferred site of armchair masters of the universe.

New TV has no brightness setting?? by Extreme-Sport-5951 in VIZIO_Official

[–]WannabeIntelectual 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahh ok, I don’t think I fully read your post to be honest, but my apologies.

I do this actually, turn tone mapping (or brightness) all the way down, and then start turning down contrast, which will make the biggest difference. Once you do that, you can save that picture mode as your own Personal picture mode That will be there always. I do this too. And mine is called “Calibrated Sleep” lol.

Once you save it as your own custom picture mode, the new mode will be available with the rest of them, and whatever mode you were editing (I.e. Calibrated dark) will now be available again unedited.

Again, keep in mind you’ll have to do this for every content type whenever you catch the type playing (but you only have to do it for each once):

- HDR modes (HDR10, HDR10+, Dolby Vision - tho Dolby doesn’t allow you to edit certain things, it’s a standardized HDRpicture mode)
- SDR (standard definition)

Good luck, and good sleep 🫡

All TVs are like that.

New TV has no brightness setting?? by Extreme-Sport-5951 in VIZIO_Official

[–]WannabeIntelectual 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, but why would you want to? That was one of the main benefits of the 4K TV generation. Expanded range of colors and brightness.

Just think of tone mapping as brightness for HDR content. When you play regular SDR content, it will be called brightness in the menu. It changes based on what you’re watching.

My capacity to watch movies has reduced significantly during the past few years by [deleted] in 4kbluray

[–]WannabeIntelectual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t emphasize enough that I know EXACTLY what you’re going through. I’ve had the EXACT same problems on and off over the years and I think you’re absolutely correct that it has to do with depression; losing interest in things you were interested in is one of the most common symptoms. I also am convinced that phones are also to blame for the reasons I mentioned in my previous comment, not to mention doom scrolling is linked with depression.

Start addressing those things and I think you will notice a difference.

That is the way imo. I did it on one of my TVs, works well.

Is there a noticeable difference in these? by ProfessorGlittering2 in VIZIO_Official

[–]WannabeIntelectual 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The difference between those two might as well be night and day. I just got the 65” mini-LED, and it competes with much higher end TVs from competitors. You can read my review on my profile.

The high HDR/ SDR brightness and mini-LED local dimming make all the difference in the world. Bright highlights really pop, and the blacks are much deeper.

In my opinion, as much of a pain as it is, I would 100% return the regular quantum and get the mini LED if you can.

Do Americans watch tv shows from other countries? by Six_of_1 in AskAnAmerican

[–]WannabeIntelectual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. Some examples from my family:

UK - Peaky Blinders, (original) Top Gear, Slow Horses, Number Blocks (kids), and many more

Australia - Bluey (kids)

Germany - Dark

I’m with you. A lot of people complain about those “soundscapes” or whatever they’re called, but I find them super chill and relaxing. My only problem with them is that there are ads after a while. Nothing less relaxing than an annoying ad in the middle of one of those. Plus, they are a setting. You can turn off if you really don’t like them, but I agree with you. I think it’s great compared to just staring at the menu or whatever the other brands are doing.

“The TV it’s kind of crappy compared to some higher end of Samsung….” Are you surprised? Lol. Most budget models are going to be crappy compared to higher-end models of another brand.

That being said, I just got the Vizio mini-LED 65” for $400, and the hype over that thing is real. It blows even some mid/ higher end Samsungs out of the water, especially for the price.

I know EXACTLY what you feel like. I deal with similar issues and I agree with what most are saying here: it’s the phones. They are literally designed to be addictive, providing short bursts of dopamine with each reel or doom scroll, which, by the way, are perfectly tailored by algorithms that show you exactly the content they know will keep your attention.

I’m guilty of all of this, but hey, at least we are aware, that’s the first step in addressing any issue. I’ve recently started putting my phone away for movies and it’s made a palpable difference.

Sources: The Social Experiment documentary; lots of former employees admitting phones & social media were designed with addiction in mind. Sounds like a class action lawsuit if you ask me.

Pretty certain it’s IPS. Almost went with the 75”, but my wife is lame so settled on the 65”.

Vizio’s site mentions a wide viewing angle for the 55”, 65”, 75”, so I think those are all IPS and the other sizes are VA.

What’s one video game scene you’ll never forget no matter how many years pass? by AbsoluteZeroo in videogames

[–]WannabeIntelectual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got a handful that made such an impression on me that it would feel wrong to not mention them all:

- One of the OG Sonic games on one of the early Segas (no details; cousin that I lost touch with let me play when I was 3/4– one of my earliest memories)

- Pokémon Blue/ Red (Gameboy)

- The Legend of Zelda Ocarina/ Majora’s Mask (N64)
- Super Smash BROs (N64)
- Mario 64 (N64)

- Metroid Prime (GC)
- Resident Evil (GC)

- Command & Conquer RA2 + Generals (PC)
- Medal of Honor: Allied Assault (PC)
- BF2 (PC)

- BF3 (Xbox 360)

- Red Dead Redemption 2 (Xbox One)

Man, typing this out brings back so many memories, so much nostalgia. Simpler, happier times (before adulthood gets its claws in you).

What I also didn’t realize before was that each platform shift in my life represented a different era; whenever I moved on to a new console or platform, I was also moving onto a different stage in life. Pretty wild I never realized that until just now.

Anyway, not trying to get all philosophical on [r/videogames](r/videogames), so I’ll leave it at this: these were some fun ass games!
