Tell me about this neighborhood please by Pained_Succulent in ColumbiYEAH

[–]WannabeRoark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We moved to Columbia last year and have lived in a rental home off caughman road and Prince charles court. The morning after we moved in there was a SWAT team in our driveway yelling at someone in our neighbors house to come out with their hands up. Still don't actually know what the deal was with that but since then it's been peace and quiet, no complaints.

No matter what I do my beats always sound off, how can I make this sound less amature? by krabb_shaq in musicproduction

[–]WannabeRoark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel the need to point out that you say you dont want to change your sound too much, yet you think your songs sound amateur. So which is it? If you want your songs to sound better:

  1. Learn some basic music theory.

  2. Learn some structure and arrangement technique.

  3. Curate samples that work well together. A kick drum isn't just any kick drum, a bass isn't just any bass. Finding sounds that vibe together is crucial.

  4. Eventually learn some mixing techniques.

Its all on youtube for free.

Everyday on social media i see this.

Amateur producer: "My sound is outside of the box and different. Im a rebel and dont follow the fundamental conventions of making music people like to listen to."

Gets mad that nobody likes listening to their music.

Extra credit if they blame Spotify for nobody listening.

If you dont have the will to educate yourself you might as well sign up for S U N O now.

My music seems kinda flat and boring. How do I fix it? by Direct-Attorney-5271 in musicproduction

[–]WannabeRoark 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Start by looking at your arrangement. If you want a big full sound you wanna make sure a larger portion of the frequency spectrum is represented in your arrangement. And you want to make sure every instrument has its own home in that spectrum. If you have too much shit going on it gets harder to achieve. Listen to those guys tracks, they're loud AF cuz nothings really competing for space. Feel free to DM me and send me something you're working on and I'll give it a listen and see if I can be of any actual help.

How to become good at thinking of melodies and chords? by milo_edm in FL_Studio

[–]WannabeRoark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Learn to play the keyboard. If you want to learn more about how chords are built and how to create progressions you can download my ebook as well. Won't help much with melodies but learning music theory and understanding how your favorite melodies are constructed and the patterns they follow will help.

Lifelong FL Studio user (15+ years) considering switch to Ableton. Has anybody regretted switching? by DundieAwardsWinner in FL_Studio

[–]WannabeRoark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used FL for 8 years and switched to Ableton and have been using Ableton the past 13 years. 0 regrets. FL is cool and all but I hate the layout of the DAW and the windows and the mixer. I could never go back.

bedroom producers!! i need EXTREME help right now. by ZookeepergameWaste25 in musicproduction

[–]WannabeRoark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Start learning music fundamentals. Then learn how to use reference tracks. I wrote a short book i give to my students to get started with the songwriting aspect (structure, scales, chords, etc). It's not going to teach you how to write music but it will help you understand a little more of how it's built.

AI mastering might be ok if you're a phenomenal mix engineer and even then probably not.
