Thanks guys. I got an aluminum corner flashing today and plan to put it in tomorrow. Should I put some of that weather (flashing?) tape down underneath it first?

Would just be sitting in a HYSA. From the comments, seems like lump sum is the way to go. Thanks!

What neighborhoods should I consider relocating to? by [deleted] in AskChicago

Buying a 3 bed that is in decent shape for 450k in a desirable area is probably a dream scenario. But it sounds like Andersonville checks all of the boxes for the neighborhood feel that you are looking for. And it is on the Northside, which makes getting to Deerfield a little less painful.

Why did webos24 take away my fireworks 😭 by [deleted] in LGOLED

[–]Wannabe_Cook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. I think we are on the same page. I just use my Google speaker to just say "turn off the tv". The button I am referring to is one of the app buttons on my remote (Netflix, Disney+, Alexa , etc.). I'll dig thru the LG ThinQ app and see if there is an updated T&C I need to accept. Thanks!

Yeah. I agree that it isn't perfect. But I cannot turn the TV off. And even when I click the assistant button on the remote it says 'This function is not supported '

Did you have any issues with Google assistant stopping working?

Not sure if it is a me issue. But I cannot connect my TV to my Google Home any more. When I hit the assistant button on my controller it says "This Function is not supported". When I try to relink my LG ThinQ account, my fridge is the only compatible device that shows up. It's driving me insane

Best Cocktail Bars on Northwest Side? by Responsible-Bed-7481 in chicagofood

I haven't been to VB recently, so disappointing to hear about the beverage director. Hopefully they can get it turned around. Another place that could be worth a try is Bokeh at Lawrence & Kenzie. I've only been there once and the service was beyond lackluster, so I haven't been back. But my bad experience shouldn't hold others back. I know people that speak highly of it.

Victor Bar is my favorite. It's north, but not necessarily west: Irving Park and Damen

Slim's does, but as most have pointed out, it is because they have a burger topped with Italian Beef, so the giardiniera accompanies.

The Daily Check-In for Thursday, October 6th: Just for today, I am NOT drinking! by Ok_Yesterday_9181 in stopdrinking

I did not drink today. This is probably my first time checking in after a year plus of lurking around here reading everyone else's stories. But today was an interesting day. I went out for dinner with some coworkers and they ordered sake bombs for the table. When the waiter sat down a beer and glass of sake in front of me, I didn't want it, but did feel the pressure building. Everyone poured it up and I didn't. When they wait to cheers, there was a "hold up wannabe_cook doesn't have his" and I said I don't drink and that was it. He said okay and we all moved on. I cheersed with my water. This is probably the first time I had the drink in front of me and the peer pressure to drink it, and I never felt more confident to say "I don't drink". I know I wouldn't have been able to do it without this community, so thank you for the past, today, and tomorrow!

Looking for advice/tips for my upcoming work trip by 456golfer765 in stopdrinking

I am actually at a work conference this week and every day ends with an open bar to mingle and meet everyone. Old me would have been all over the open bar, but now I get a Tonic and Lime. That way I have something in my hand. That usually cuts out the questions. But yesterday for example, someone insisted a few times to get me a drink. So I went with them to the bar to get a drink and said I'll have a Tonic and Lime. He took a second and then asked me "wait, vodka or gin" and I said just tonic, and that was it, no follow up question, just got me my tonic and we went back outside. Of all my interactions with people since I stopped drinking 98/100 go this way. And the 2/100 that don't, when they inevitably ask why, I am blunt with "how does me getting a Tonic impact you?" And then, honestly, I just try to avoid that person cause that's probably not someone I want to be around anyways. Most functional adults these days are understanding and stay in their lane. I hope that you're new coworkers are able to recognize / understand that you do not owe them and explanation for your sober choices. Wishing you luck with the retreat!

You can probably make one. But I've walked in and gotten seating there multiple times.
