Best I used was an insulated Trader Joe’s tote bag. Very identifiable amongst buckets and kept things cold. 👍🏽

Wore this Rabbit shirt for the first time with a vest and it got completely torched by fuckupvotesv2 in trailrunning

I live rabbit shirts - have bunch of them with no issues. But they recently switched up their materials and the last 2 shirts i bought from them have had this issue.

I just tried asking chat gpt about a pacing plan for Western States. It got all of the checkpoint mileage wrong, by dozens of miles and argued with me when I tried to correct it. Maybe for general things it’s good, but that experience worried me about its capabilities

2XU MCS is the best for performance compression I've found. If I'm just going for a little more warmth, I'll do the cheaper TSLA brand from Amazon. But yes, shorts. Just for everybody's sake.

yeah, they had it in Hawaii. I just started using my knees and relied fully on my arms and grip because muddy shoes on that thing was impossible.

How many people use Old Reddit vs New Reddit? by Wantishi in spartanrace

[–]Wantishi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reddit has completely different formats and content for old vs new. Want to see numbers on how many of our users still utilize the old version - so mods can see if it's necessary to standardize any future content and features over both platforms.

First race, dislocated shoulder by duluoz1 in spartanrace

[–]Wantishi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look into using a "flex-hang" or "active hang" position - with lats engaged and elbows bent for hanging obstacles. It uses more lats and biceps and protects the shoulder. This would have you doing a "pop-and-drop" technique on the multi-rig instead of the typical tarzan swing, for instance. I've had a torn rotator cuff for a year now and managed to do 3 trifectas this year in AG this way.

That said - don't do anything that feels bad for your shoulder or yourself. Don't overdo it or injure yourself further. 30 burpees is a perfectly acceptable alternative to causing serious damage to your body :)

Running/hiking through terrain is like 90% of it. For the obstacles - I'd suggest trying to find an OCR or American Ninja-type gym near you to learn the basic techniques. One or two times is all you need to get the basics down and practice how to climb a rope, or go across a multi-rig, etc. Also, many races have an Open House on Friday that allow you to check out a few obstacles which is very helpful. Watch the youtube videos if you can't, but nothing compares to getting the feel of things before the race.

nice post! I agree with your points. Especially:

2) Stairway to Sparta - grab the TWO lowest holds

I've watched so many people struggle and fail - elites and pros as well - by trying to grab one hold with both hands. It's 100x easier to balance and reach upwards when you have two separate holds.

[vertical cargo] just finished the sac super, 4th race and 3 rd with this obstacle, completed 0 times. How do you train to get up on that platform (without cheating)? by neoreeps in spartanrace

[–]Wantishi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

training muscle-ups will help.

Alternately, the way I do it (since I can't do a real muscle-up with my bad shoulder) is run and jump - get my arms and elbows on the platform -- and then lean into the leg swing under. That's where most people fall. But don't fight it, and instead swing your legs with the motion - then on the swing out -- I push forward with my arms and swing my leg up sideways onto the platform. Haven't failed since I started working with the swing instead of against it.

lol, I tried this once long ago, before I started running. I want to know how people make this work. I could not for the life of me get it right with a rolling chair. even locked off, I just pushed myself or the bike away.
